Animated vertexes in HL2?

Dunno if this is the right place to post it, or if its allready been asked, in that case sorry. :hmph:
I've been fiddling around with animated vertexes creating some nice blobby animations. Basically just for fun to see what Source can do.
Compile etc went great, its all ingame.
Neither modelviewer nor ingame shot my animations? It seems to only animate through bones ( skin or physique )?
This is weird, for i have 3 year old games that support animated objects and vertexes. I must be doing something wrong here, anybody have a clue or tried this before?
 
you need to export the animations as a vertex animation file or .VTA if you have done this and it still doesnt work then im not sure as ive never used vertex animations before. i do feel like messing around with it today though so if i figure out what the problem is ill let you know.

Ill try to mess around with the VTA stuff.
