Ok, straight out, I'm not sure whether to stick this in TV/Movies, or Off-Topic, because of the Manga side of things. But anyways...

I'm watching:

Bleach(fan-dubbed) - great anime, nice animation style, good characters, unfortunantly about half-way through it turns into endless biffo. Good beginnings though.

Love Hina (fan-dubbed) - wow that had horrible English voice-actors. Akumatsu weirdness, basically...

I gotta go, it's late at night. I'll update some more later, post for the anime, I don't want to be the only otaku around.

Im watching Elfenlied really disturbing anime
and I just now begun to watch Samurai Chlampoo
and Naruto of course

I tried to watch Samurai Champloo but the music is totally horrible, it's like some dodgy French porno. I stopped watching after 2 eps.

Fullmetal Alchemist. shitty title, but interesting to see a military state with magic and modern technology.

The manga side of this splits it between Books and TV...I think Generel OT is fine...

I'm reading a couple of manga in original Japanese atm (from a Japanese bookstore):

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo - surreal comedy about this guy with a big afro called Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo who is a master of Nose Hair Kung-Fu. Kind of meant for kids, but it's so chaotic and some of the jokes are so bent and messed up they'd be funny to anyone. Warning: all the scanlations I've seen of this are ABYSMALLY poor, they ruin all the jokes. If you search really hard you can find the first 4 episodes of the TV anime in english fansubbed, but noone ever got further than that (apart from the Spanish and Chinese).

Death Note - very well drawn story about a super-intelligent teenage guy who comes into possession of a Death Note, which contains the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. He is accompanied by a Shinigami (Death God) called Ryuk/Luke who was the original owner of the note, and he uses the note to try and rid the world of evil criminals. However he then gets chased up by a super-intelligent detective known only as 'L'. The story started off awesome, lost it's way BADLY, and now seems like it may have picked up again - it's a good psychological story, not so much action but good twists sometimes. You can find scanlations of this in English (I dunno how good they are).

Vagabond - samurai-type story set just before the Edo period in Japan. A friend said it was about Miyamoto Musashi and his bokken (wooden sword) fighting style...I'll just have to take his word for it, since although the main character does use wooden swords there is no mention of the name Musashi. This is *amazingly* drawn, but the story isn't up to much IMO...pretty gory, which is fine, but cheap titty shots and an arsehole of a main character make it even more juvenile than Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo for me, so I've only read the first 2 books. That is just my opinion though - I'm sure loads would love it. I think you can even buy this one in English.

Naruto - not bad, not amazing. I get it cheap, if you know what I mean... It is slow as all hell though. For criticisms see my anime recommendations list below.

Anime I am watching atm:

Naruto (english fan-subbed) - yeah, yeah, everyone knows about this. I'm losing interest in it rapidly, though. I only really watch it for Orochimaru's brief appearances any more, since he is one of the greatest characters ever devised. IMO it started going downhill ever since all the fights became city-destroying DBZ fireball and lightning battles... Pretty cheesy.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (chinese fansub) - I can't read Chinese, but since there's no english fansub and I can't get the original Jap episodes, this is the only way I can watch this series. Far inferior to the manga, with a lot of jokes censored, but some parts are great. This, along with Naruto, has now been licensed and will appear on TV in the West sometime soon. I'm sure the dubbing job will ruin both.

*Incidentally, there is a Smash Bros. Melee style game coming out on the Nintendo DS called "Jump Superstars", which will feature characters from Bo-bobo, Naruto, Dragonball, Death Note and a few other series. Japan only, so watch for it on import.

It's called J-Pop and some people like it.

/me runs

Currently watching Rurouni Kenshin...

...and I have about 30 other anime series to watch on my harddrive that I will probably never have time to see before my computer crashes.

EVERYBODY MUST WATCH COWBOY BEBOP RIGHT NOW.

That is all.

My friend at work is an anime freak. He was telling me about this story about the sailor moon series, where they were trying to adapt the series for younger children. There were these two ladies, forget their names, but they were supposed to be lesbiens in the actual series. When they adapted it for children, they never cut out any of the scenes of them hugging and kissing and stuff, they just changed the words. Instead of being called lesbiens, there now called cousins.

Elfen Lied for teh win! Seriously, probably one of best series ever. Main characters rule, even if some of them are kind of a cliche. Violence in it is ofcourse one thing, but the shock effect of it really makes the viewer to take the series seriously ( :p ) + it shows tits.

Other good animes are ofcourse Azumanga Daioh because of its undeniable characters and humour. Read or Die is just cool, atleast the OVA:s are. TV has its good spots too, but it's stupid littlegirl-love (dont even ask) is just ridiculous. If you want mecha-action and beautiful anime girls, there's Full Metal Panic + Fumoffu. For Ecchi-genre, tehh winner is definately Girls Bravo. Fun characters, weird but still good humour, and lots of boobies. What more can you ask.

Currently im watching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time, im around in episode 20. Along with that is Bleach, the current "fashion" anime. And then im ofcourse watching Naruto, but the recent episodes have sucked dick so much, that im considering to erase the whole series from my memory.

I havent really read so much manga... I''s is the only one I can remember, and its drama about highschoolers, so I didnt expect much. But it was very enjoyable in the end, atleast if you havent read any well-drawn drama-manga.
Oh, it has teh boobs too. And some sex.

That concludes my bragging, good night.

Elfenlied rockssssszzzzzzzz its so gory and it has nudety to.......ahhh what a combination

I'm watching (On and off):

Naruto
Bleach
Elfen Lied
Samurai Champloo

I also have several other series that I haven't watched yet. About 100 gigs of anime on my harddrive, and at least 100 anime DVDs.

Am I the only one in the entire world who doesn't get what's so great about Anime?

The writing is almost always terrible, and most of the time the animation is not even that good.

You're not alone. Despite making the most mahusive post in this thread, I am not a big fan of anime. The animation is often quite poor, like you say. I tend to go after manga, which are usually far superior to their anime counterpart. Even then I mainly read it for the language practice, although there are a lot of good stories to be found.

I own all 4 Azumanga Daioh manga's. Also have all the episodes (subbed) on my HD. Also have all the eps (subbed) for Chobits, and all 6 episodes of Fooly Cooly. (Tri audio, meaning I can get any combination of english subs, japanese subs, directors commentary subs, english dialogue, (very well done) and japanese dialogue)

Still watching Chobits and Azumanga Daioh. Fooly Cooly blew me away, and I wish there were more episodes.

Oh, yes, it's time for me to start ranting and posting again.

On the anime side of things...

Cowboy Bebop - I third Sulkdodd's motion.

Trigun - Not the greatest animation, not the greatest storyline, not the greatest actors - but Vash is such a strange person it's hard not to obsessively watch.

Neon Genisis Evangelion - hell, it's there. Whatever. Good psycho-whatsit, though.

Naruto - To be perfectly honest it's ok anime but fight scenes are really confusing and there's just so many of them.

...something - god dammit i forgot what it was called. Something about a play? Two girls get sucked into some sort of ancient play or something? I forget. Dammit, dammit, dammit. It was such a good anime as well.

And on the Manga Side of things...

.Hack//Sign - Legend of the Twilight Bracelet - shoddy story, good art.

Bleach - I'll just say 'Ichi/Ruki' and leave it at that, shall I?

Naruto - I've only got it because it's the 'in' thing.

Cowboy Bebop - different stories from the anime, but still...

MegaTokyo - God i love this stuff.

Like all media (and like western films), 80% of anime is pure crap. So don't watch the crap stuff... :upstare:

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Cowboy Bebop. Noir. Ghost in the Shell! Akira (and the comics too). Spriggan is a good film with a silly name.

Oh, and even if you don't like anime normally, rent Cowboy Bebop the movie. Because it is really, really great. Seriously. Go and rent it! or buy it even!

My man Skulk!

I'm even buying the Cowboy Bebop DVDs (ain't got all yet). It's the last Anime I watch at all... I still like the Spriggan movie (hate the Manga...) and the Ghost in the Shell series (pt. 1, pt. 2 and SAC) though.

Scrapped Princess. Great series. It is my favorite..
Chrno Crusade *Chrono Crusade in USA...* Is topped in 2nd very closly to 1st. It's definately worth watching. Great story, with great visual effects to them, and to top it off, characters with kick ass "personalities'
And no, I'm not one of those people that go to conventions dressed up like my favorite anime character and thinks I'm them...omfg..that skares me thinking about it..maybe I'll go do it.

Then the obvious ones people love

Gundam 08th MS Team, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Fatal Fury movies *Some don't like them, But I liked em alot.* Gundam Wing, Evangelion...not great, but not bad at all. The ending ruined it for me. There are more I'll add at a later time..I'm a bit tired and can't remember.
*EDIT* I'd buy the DVD's to some of the stuff..but really, I don't have money. So I d/l them. I KNOW ITS BAD..I just need to watch them. I really do plan to by the ones I like alot. I already bought the professionally sub'd Scrapped Princess series. Omfg..worst subbing ever. None of it made sense. I'm glad I watched the Fan-Sub first..cause that I understood. I'm buying Chrno Crusade when they are all released..and get all the little toys with em too! wewt. and when the rest of the english stuff comes out for the Scrapped Princess, I'll buy those too.

Here's the list of stuff that is necessary to watch -
Cowboy Bebop - so cool Jesus himself gave it 2 thumbs up
Neon Genesis Evangelion - if you've only watched it once you're only getting 10% of it, if you've watched it at least 3 times you're getting closer
Trigun - This one hits all the bases, and hits them well, its fun, dramatic, action-packed, and there's donuts

Other ones to check out for the more cereberal types -
Lain - this one'll have you thinking, and going back for at least one more round if not 2 or 3 more
Boogiepop Phantom - If you can figure it all out one even your 2nd go around you're a certifiable genius - visuals aren;t always the greatest (it's a bit murky) but if you don;t mind it's good, the timeline is also all over the place which makes it nice and fractured

For those wanting more action -
Gundam 08th MS Team - it's like the other Gundam series only compressed, still just as good and plenty of action
Gantz - only 11 episodes out so far, sadly, pick up the manga though, it's pretty damn good, also has lots of nudity, at least in the manga

For a nice, simple, guilty pleasure -
Please Teacher - not only is the teacher, Mizuho, hot, but so is her mom, has tons of really funny situations
Love Hina - Funny as shit with plenty of hot girls to ogle at and very interesting situations

I just started watching Elfen Lied, but it's good so far, especially if you like blood, guts, and boobs

Oh, and if you're gonna be watching Cowboy Bebop or Neon Genesis Evangelion you absolutely MUST watch the movies as well, because as great as the series are, the movies have better visuals and also help to round out the series, or present an entirely new ending in NGE's case

Elfen Lied, Elfen Lied, Elfen Lied
I really enjoyed that series. It's really gory and isn't afraid to show little kids being ripped apart.

wow, you have no clue about anime, appleseed blows, come back to me when you've at least watched NGE and then we can talk

And now, to sit back and watch the hilarity as the animu fan bit the troll's bait.

I'm surprised it took 3 pages.

Ninja edit: I LIKED the original Appleseed. Jerk.

You haven't seen anime until you've seen Imouto Jiru. It's simply better than every other.

You're right, I'm wrong, all anime does blow.

Yeah. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are lesbians. They don't say it outright but they do make lots of inuendo references. The dub did make their relationship look quite incestous.

Also, in the first series there's a gay guy. He's seen hugging another guy and saying how much he loves him. In the American translation they changed him to a girl (Gave him a female voice actor).

I guess you could say I am not a normal anime fan.

Appleseed 2K4- the CGI was very well done and made the movie enjoyable.

Elfen Lied- I only watched a few episodes of it and I absolutely hated it. I don't enjoy watching animes where you can clearly tell that nudity was suppose to make people interested in it. I have never watched hentai but I have a big feeling that this is close to it.

Full Metal Alchemist- Loved it, nice story, very dramatic at certain points, great characters, several funny moments in it. Can't wait for the movie.

FLCL- Incredible weird, odd, strange, but funny and entertaining.

Ghost in the Shell: Awsome, you either love it or hate it. The whole cyberpunk theme to it makes it amazing, loved the movies and the tv show. It was the first anime I started to watch when I got hooked on anime. Cant wait for english subs of the second season to finish.

Last Exile- Enjoyable anime, very nice blend of anime and CGI.

Macross Plus- First anime I saw that really got me interested.

Neon Genesis Evangelion- Very nice, philosophical & mechs-never seen a combination like that. Watching it for my second time.

Paranoia Agent- Watched a few episodes on Adult Swim, seems odd but enjoyable to watch.

Rahxephon- First episodes made it sound like NGE but past that it showed it was different.

S-Cry-Ed- Typical anti-hero with superpowers, it was enjoyable to watch though.

Anyone got reccomendations?

I just recently started reading the MegaTokyo today, actually....

But in fact, I'm part of a small anime team. I can't draw, though, I write the screenplays and help with the story. I'm also hoping to help with the music.
