Annoying Problem [[Spoilers]]

Hi.

I am at the part in Eps2 where the Vorts are trying to revive Alyx with the extract. So, they ask me to join in and the Vort i was traveling with hands the extract to the one across the table. But, as soon as he turns "purple", (as i would call it) the game slows down tremedously and is very, very choppy (1 movement every 5 seconds.) The rest of the game has played fine. I highly doubt this is a desired effect. Granted my rig isnt the greatest but it has played Eps2 up till now at a playable rate. I have tried restarting the level and the game but to no avail.

Yes, the game is valid as i bought it off of steam as part of the Orange Box. So can you guys help me here? This is a big subplot here and i dont wanna miss it!

AMD Athlon XP 2200+ ~1.8 GHz.
512 MB Ram
X700 Pro

Sorry to say this, but the only good solution is buying an extra gig of ram.

I ditched 512 and you wont beleive how I dont even recognize my machine anymore.

(aka its playable now)

RAM has seriously dropped in price this year. On ebay.co.uk you can get 1gig of DDR for about ?15 (approx $30)

Yeah it's always been liked that. Then it was fixed. Now its back to question marks.

From what I've heard, that wouldn't help. It seems to be random - some people with very good specs get the problem, too.
