i need a computer thats not so pricy but can run hl2

wrong thread, but i would go with a pc that has this...

amd athlon 3000+ 64
512 mb-1 gig ram
at least a 9600 pro

that will run it very well, but if you really need to go cheap...
pentium 4 2.4 ghz
512 ram
at least a 9200

check out www.newegg.com

for video card i would go with:

if you can spend more...

here is a decent processor

not to familiar with ram and motherboards, but you want at least 512 ram, preferably a gig, and you want a 350-400 watt power supply

Hey that is sorta what i have except i have 6800 with 1 GB of ram I am sorta thinking of upgrading my CPU to a 64bit 3400+ I would have done this before when i first built the computer but the 3400's were like 400 dollars :hmph: . Any way that is a very nice set up but i like the idea of a 9800 pro so look into that one too if you want.

But i would say that you would have to drop $750 to run HL2 good and that is without a monitor. That is why you really have to think about it. Find some other uses for a brand new computer besides HL2. So that is my 2 cents but really think about it, dont throw your money on some crap computer and find it cant play HL2 or anything else.(And i have done this before) So good luck

A $500 dollar computer could do it without breaking a sweat.

Probably cheaper to buy components and put it together yourself.

Be sure to check the system requirements:

Windows XP/200/Me/98
1.2 GHz Processor
256MB RAM
DirectX 7 Graphics Card
4.5GB Hard Drive

However, recommended requirements are:

2.4 GHz Processor
512MB RAM
DirectX 9 capable graphics card

Good luck!

Firstly, a real nice budget card that can run HL2 flawlessly would be the FX5200.
Should be in $50 - $60 range now...

agreed.. though in dx8, looks great, and runs good on my brothers comp and on my friends comp

the water looks nasty in DX8 when compared to DX9, no reflections, totally unrealistic.

DX9:

if you can afford it buy a 9700Pro, much better card and fully DX9 compatable, will make the game look much better:)

Definately go with newegg.com! I haven't seen a site with better prices, quality, or customer service! (and I wasnt payed to say that either! :E )

Really? I thought newegg shipped worldwide.....
Well, that sucks for you foreigners! hahahahahahah!

The processor isn't that important. Get a 2.4 GHZ+ CPU and a 9800 Pro. Memory is vital though. You need 1024 MB to play smoothly with maximum texture detail.

512mb and a 9800 will suffice though.

I was. MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars.

Anyway, totally build it yourself if you feel comfortable with that. You can save a scad of money, and also get the infinite smugness that comes from saying "Yeah, that beast on my desk? Built it from a length of wire and some snips." Works everytime.

Plus you can get much better components for roughly the same price.
