I live in Tokyo, so I could choose to buy the Japanese
version, or the English version. How much localization will
there be anyway? (most games are in Enlglish with Japanese
subtitles..) I don't think they will redub all of the voices...

Ayone going to play a non English version of HL2?

nah... i don't speak japanese so good... heh heh...

There's English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, traditional and simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
I think non-English versions will have subtitles but dubbing the voices would be seamless thanks to the Source engine's ability for characters to perfectly lip sync words.
I wonder, would the German version off of Steam be censored like the first Half-life was?

I dunno, but from looks of what they've shown in the e3 2003 demo all the voices are being dubbed into every localized language.

Ie... the g-man speaking in japanese easily thanks to the .wav file implementation.

Also the lip movements should match the words for each language... that's just a educated guess on my part but i think they went all 9 yards with it

lol.. yea

or maybe it was chinese.. i don't remember what he said... i'm a dumb uneducated american, i can't tell the difference :bounce:

The German version of HL2 won´t be censored like the first HL.

But you won´t get it if you´re under 18.

The E3 video was mentioned to be in Chinese, and sounded like it..

(though I don't speak Chinese...)

no, it couldn't have been chinese. he didn't go heeeeYA! or anything...

Let me see...

My Chinese is not very good, but I think he said:

"Mr. Freeman...is my love monkey......"

The PC Gamer said the localized versiosn would come dubbed and closed-captioned in its own language. And yes i mean closed-captioned not subtitled, its a cool feature in HL2 to help the hearing impaired understand the game better. The PCG review talked about it, its pretty cool :p

hey, it's all gravy, baby. the thick kind. with chunks. mmm...chunks

It would be cool if there was a way to change the language type in steam. I want to learn Spanish, so it would be cool to play through HL2 in Spanish.. after playing through it in English first, of course!
