Anyone undertand the story?

If you do please inform me lol, I have alot of questions.

I know that there was a war for 7 days, but what attacked us ( xen creatures, combine species themselvs, or) ??? I notice they use humans to do most of the fighting now ( atleast I thought the combine soldiers were brainwashed humans). Also is there any mention as to how bad the war was, which countries were taken over first? How many people died? When we surrendered was it because it was life or death, or did the leaders just give up easily?

I know you cant awnser all of these just would like to hear more about what happened during this war. I feel like Im watching a long movie, and I get to watch 5 min then it cuts off for 30 min over and over.

Also why does dr kliener have a pet headcrab, that he cares for so much?? lol

In a nutshell:

After the resonance cascade, Xen creatures continued to appear all across the world. Rural areas and suburbs became uninhabitable - there simply wasn't enough man power to guard them. So people crowded into the cities for protection.

Then the Citadels appeared. big huge chunks in the middle of the city would just teleport away, and the Citadels would replace them. It was happening all over the world. Earth put up a 7 hour (not day) fight, before Dr. Breen, the former adminstrator of Black Mesa, arranged the surrender. Breen managed to gain power during the crisis, and in return for the surrender, the Combine awarded him even more power, and now he spews their bullshit all day long.

He's a lone 63 years old single and he needs company badly.
