Anyway to turn off/down the gore/blood???

I like the enjoyment of the game, but the blood/gore seems a little excessive. Also have small kids in the house and don't like them coming in the room just when I'm sawing a zombie in half. I'm surprised no options were given in the menu. Anyway to to tone it down in the console or run a particular mod?

Have you even seen the original Half Life? If you think this has too much blood(the only thing close to gore is the Antlions exploding) then you'd die over Half Life.

Frankly, I miss seeing soldiers getting chunked when they sat on a grenade... It added to the effect that grenades would blast you to pieces when you sat on them instead of just making you fall over.

Hmm... mp_decals 0. Anyway, the gore of HL2 wasn't enough. HL has more gore compared to HL2.

tell the little kids to shut their eyes

Maybe there should be a console command?

mp_decals 0 like sid burn said?

Well, I'll try that and see what happens if there aren't any other ideas.

Heh, I had small cousins (3 or 4 years old) in my room this morning. I was watching T2. I was like "Do you see that guy, thats the T-1000, watch what happens to his face."

I think I've scarred them for life.

If you don't want gore or blood, don't play the game, simple as that, especially if you are worried little children are going to see it, no matter what, even with no gore/blood its still a game they shouldn't see, so I don't see why them seeing blood would matter anyways,

can't you see what the man is asking, u foolish people.

I supose you know how to enable console, but anyway..

You right click on your steam icon in the tray bar, then "Play Games" Then right click on "Half-Life 2" and choose Properties, then "Launch Options"

In the empty field you type in,

-console

as it it above and nothing added, launch the game and the console should appear, if it doesn't go to options, keyboard, advanced, Enable Developers Console, then hit the tilde botton "~"

then the commands are,

cl_show_bloodspray 0
cl_show_bloodsplashes 0

you are playing a first person shooter and you don't want gore...

cl_show_bloodspray 0
cl_show_bloodsplashes 0

That's weird, I thought those were set to 0 by default, since I don't recall seeing any blood/gore in the game.

Maybe because your computer hardware isn't good enough, then it sets it to 0 automaticly...

try the commands out with 1, it should work

Too Much Gore? There Was Not Enough!

Yeah, remember in HL where you gibbed someone and all that was left of them was a skull with one eye, some intestines, a bone and TWO HEARTS!!! AS BIG AS BULL'S HEARTS!

Ahem, sorry. Anyway, HL2 is certainly more realistic with it's ragdolls, but there is a little blood, no fracturing of internal organs or anything. I think in terms of violence the important thing isn't blood. Violence is hurting someone/thing human, blood or not. Even zombies might be interpreted as human to some impressionable people.

And imagine if you turned the blood off.
A 3 year old who had played HL got a crowbar from the toolshed and says to his mate "don't worry, when i hit you there won't be any blood, just like HL!"

Sorry, a bit off topic. To answer your question, no there isn't a gore option (Yet). But it is rated 15 in UK.

In Route Kanal there were some internal organs in that area with all the barnacles.
