well, for me, at level 14ish, the arena is so damned hard, i have to either use god mode cheat, or use about 10 potions to win. is it my weapons? im using elven shortsword

I use a shield spell (50% for 1 min), fortify strength and fatigue (home brewn), and usually a magical staff that I just found (sell it after the battle). Or you can just decrase the difficulty (more honorable than using cheats).

Blade of Woe ftw.

Until I got my Blade of Woe I found it incredibly hard too.

Arena was a breeze for me. I never once lost more than 50% of my health.

It was easy as shit at level 5, especially if you do the quest for the Grand Champion. I didn;t even do enough to level while completing it.

It was pretty easy for me. I would just sneak up to trigger the start, back off to the stairs so I could still see them and just shoot em with my bow. They wouldn't be able to see me so they would stand there and die.

^^ That's a way to do it, although a bit lame :/

I'm a pure-mage and it's a breeze with the exception of the 3 Argonian prisoners, that actually had me use my once-a-day power.

Other than that, I use summons and whack away with enchanted swords (tota of 3x damage a hit). I got to the point where I need to do the Grey Prince's quest, since I don't want to miss out on it and kill him in battle. :D

I had high acrobatics so could jump on the wall and shoot them with my fire bow. They just ran into the wall trying to get me... morons.

Talking of the grey princes quest, i want to know wether the enemies found are scaled or not?... im level 6 and all i came across was rats and wolves (and the lord ofcourse)...

what did everyone else come up against? more powerful wolves or different enemies all together? I was expecting zombies and cool things.

There scaled. They get cool later on, at like lvl15+.

If you can't beat the Arena at level 14, then you made a pretty sucky character. Are you a noob to ES? Or did you have a good couple days played on Morrowind? Try making a character who can deliver a lot of damage. Magic casters definitely have some good advantages in this game and can make the most powerful attacks.

im a sneaking oriented character, so i dont exactly bust out uber dmg. i am using a daedric short sword, and it takes at least 20 swings to kill one of the arena combatants. it is so hard for me, i dont know, maybe its just because my guy isnt made for toe to toe fighting.

The reason many people find the higher levels of playing the Arena hard is as follows. You've borked your stats somewhere and or arn't using decent weapons/armour.

i.e. having blade as main but a low strength is bad. Obviously no one (semi intelligent) is really that stupid but I know a few people who have done it.

Summoning is a great tactic. Hide behind your shield and summon a zombie. You opponent will be so busy trying to hit you that he won't block attacks from the summon.

If you have invisibility potions/spell they're great too. Use one, sneak, and get behind your opponent. vs. most of them this let me get off 3+ 6x damage attacks.

I focused on being a warrior the first 10 levels and now focus on a more stealthy approach but much slower leveling. (Getting real nice stuff and high stats, and I am only a sleep away from level 13)

I only had difficulty with two opponents, the warhammer wielding nord, and the gray prince.

My first character was a sneaky/thiefy type character fused with blade/block to be efficient in combat. Unfortunately that meant I was splitting up points among not only agility and speed, but also strength and endurance (not to mention personality since I also took speechcraft >_>). Since the most I was getting early on in the way of stat bonuses were +2's and 3's, by the time I hit level 8 I was getting owned by boars in the wilderness...

Not too fond of the way the stats work, how there's little to no "cross-over" of usefulness, and a skill will only benefit from it governing attribute. So a pure warrior type can get by with strength and endurance, as a pure caster type can with willpower and intellegence. However, a thief with high agility and speed is going to be able to sneak around effectively but little else. Sure, marksman benefits from agility, but (atleast in my experience) bows don't have nearly the same stopping power or utility as melee weapons or spells.

Oh... *ahem* as for the arena, I can't say I've competed yet :)

I've heard people discussing how difficult Dread Zombies are, but with my sneaky archer I've never been hit even once after killing 10+ of them, even taking 2 at once on one occassion. Don't underestimate sneak/bows :D

My comp is to slow for the arena, I don't know why its really fast outdoors, but not arena :( , I died 3 times trying to win the first battle, I just gave up.

I couldnt beat those 3 argonian jokers...I managed to cap one but the other 2 just got me and slashed/beat me to death.

All I did was summon a skeleton, and hacked away, with the occasional frost or lightning touch.

It's a handy skeleton minion :P

I know your post is a week old now, but next time, instead of cheating just bring down the difficulty slider. :p
