Hi All,

I just changed my video settings and got this message:

Attention out of range
H:74.9KHz V:74.8Hz

I did love playing HL2, but I am now a little annoyed that it doesn't have a config programme (unlike FarCry,UT2004 etc) to change back to original settings.

I am now unable to play this game at all, through me being 'greedy' with my resolution & this should not be the case.

My spec:
2.8ghz proc
768 ram
fx5950 ultra

Does anyone know If I will have uninstall? Or how I might get into where I was & change it back without my monitor giving this message?

I am no expert, just a gamer!

Thanks

Barney

See...why can't we get more new people like you?

To answer your question it sounds like the problem might be with the monitor itself.I never had the problem so truthfully I don't know...

* Moved to Hardware & Software

EDIT: This might sound odd, but make sure its plugged in right at the back of your computer

Thanks for the tips!

I should've added that I built this machine & I do know how to connect a monitor ;)

But Seriously, I shouldn't have screwed with the res settings before checking if the game had its own config prog (as in almost any other game!)

I have a 17" AOC monitor (pretty run-of-the-mill really) and I appreciate I have 2 options now: Uninstall & lose my saves OR buy a 19" so I can get back into the intro screen!!!!

Thanks very much for the advice though.
As for Valve <thumbs down>

Try safemode and uninstall video drivers.

Or you can do what I did and find the keystrokes it takes to change the settings in safemode, jot them down and do it again once windows starts. lol
Hey it worked. ;)

i don't see how this is valve's problem. you played with the settings and now it doesn't work, isn't that like taking your car to the garage cause a wheel came off after you tinkered with the wheel nuts?

have you edited youre config file manually? i dunno what info is in it but you may be able to have the game reset the settings when the game loads config.cfg
