A coalition of more than 70,000 Australian scientists has rejected the theory as scientifically untested, suggesting it is instead aimed at debunking the theory of evolution and lacks any credible evidence of its own.

In an open letter entitled Intelligent design is not science, the group calls on all schools not to teach the topic as science because it fails to qualify on every count as a scientific theory.

"As Australian scientists and science educators, we are gravely concerned that so-called intelligent design might be taught in any school as a valid scientific alternative to evolution," the letter says.

"While science is a work in progress, a vast and growing body of factual knowledge supports the hypothesis that biological complexity is the result of natural processes of evolution."

intelligent design's central plank of a theological or philosophical notion of supernatural intervention is a belief which cannot be observed, tested, validated or falsified. nuff said, keep it out of the classrooms.

If we sacrifice the proper education of the nations youth, we will be further undermining their chances in a global economy. Bush wants intelligent design in classrooms, what the ****. honestly, what the ****.

Is there any same scientist in the world who doesn't?

HAHA!!!

Intelligent Design. There's nothing intelligent about it.

Most exelent. Yet more people saying that ID is a load of clap-trap dreamed up by some relgious loonies (well, maybe not loonies) with no basis in science.

I think it's pretty much the same as creationism - creationism is usually considered a 'belief, and possible the term intelligent design was devised so it could be more aptly labled a 'theory' thus appear more credible against evolutionary theories. Although, I'm not going to argue whether or not the theory of intelligent design is credible as I don't know enough about it.

What I do know is, that it suggest that a (super)intelligent being (i.e. a 'god') created the universe and life.

ID = Creationism X-treme® (now with 30% more extreme-ness)
