Is there a way to back up Half-Life 2's save files so if I ever formatted my hard-drive or something else happen to my computer that I lose all my Half-life 2 files that I can just copy the files back so I dont have to restart Half-Life 2 from scratch again?

ya start in the steamapps folder

I would use a program like winRAR to compress them (create as a solid archive and make sure to increase the recovery record in case there is corruption).

This way, when you decompress, you'll know if it's a good copy as it checks the integrity of the files. (and also allows them to fit on a 4 GB dvd).

SAVE game folder

Yea...it's here.
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(Your Screenname)\half-life 2\hl2\SAVE

Just copy that folder.
