i dunno about you guys but ive been waiting for completely destructible environments in a game like battlefield for a LONG time
too bad it's not coming to PC

Wow, the destruction in this game really is on a different level. I love the particle effects from the explosions, oh and the chain reaction stuff is cool too. Blow down a tree to hit an enemy on his head

It's a very old idea and so hard to pull off, watching that video it's far from finished and looks rather repetitive in where things turn to their "destroyed" models/graphics. Hopefully they succeed in making it a reality.

Sucks that this isn't for PC, why?

Mutley, because DICE wanted to do a console exclusive BF totally 'independent' from PC versions.

The previous BFs on the consoles have been just ports.

Besides, I reckon its far harder to get these destructible environments to run at decent speeds on a PC than on the consoles due to the fact that for consoles, they only optimize it for one hardware set.(2 if you count the PS3 and the 360 )

I have this pre-ordered for mah 360.

It looks all good and everything but it's a given that the single player is going to a typical cliche squad of men vs tanks, planes and an army of bastards. It'll be fun, natch, but still...

I'm getting it for the multi player but I'm going to presume all this destructible stuff is going to be made from the ground up in single player primarily and maybe one or two blow up buildings thrown into MP to mix things up a little. :/

I hope I'm wrong. I watched the video earlier but I can't remember if they mentioned anything on it. I wasn't really listening to their dull commentary. I'd love to play an MP map that was 90% destructible. Be so awesome.

They are. I wasnt listening to the commentary either at first but if you do they mention that it is 90% destructible in MP.

The singleplayer is supposed to be quite open-ended according to previews, with a good AI for both the enemy and your squadmates(whom act to their own accord if you don't give them orders).

And afaik, any empty vehicle can be jumped into in SP, I'd assume this also means that you can kill drivers to hijack a vehicle.

anyone remember that game called Silent Storm like a few years ago? it was kind of a strategy game that had completely destructible environment. very cool. I didn't play it but i read a few reviews and it received very good points, but never really gained attention in the mainstream media.

I also cancelled my pre-order of Mercenaries 2, and switched it to Bad Company :cheers:

Though, if for whatever reason they decide to cancel Multiplayer (it's still not 100% confirmed, but most people can assume that it's Dice and Battlefield so it will), then I'm cancelling my Battlefield pre-order and going back to Mercenaries.
