Two sweet hours of a miniseries that's been recommended by many will be on Aussie TV tonight. And then there's two more tomorrow.

Who else is taping it?

Just finished watching it.

Verdict: Pretty darn good. I liked the way they had the designs from the old series in that museum on board the ship, including a Cylon Centurion. The new version of the Cylons look cooler (*Stomp*-*Stomp*), though, although I'd say it's a pity we didn't see more of them. So, is this a remake, or some sort of "Next Generation" type thing?

Am I right in thinking that those "pilotless" Cylon fighters are actually Cylons themselves?

I also thought it was amusing the way the new wiz-bang fighters just stopped working when the Cylons came near, while the clunky old white ones were completely unaffected.

Nice CGI, too. The scenes on the surface of the planet were pleasantly apocalyptic.

I thought it was very ordinary. Among other things it was slow, uninteresting with no real thought process involved, no mystery, no interesting characters, lots of poor actors. I'll give it a miss I think.

Or have lower expectations :D
But really for me compared to Stargate, Star Trek (any series pick one) and Farscape this was really very poor.

Star Trek pwns Gallactica cuz of shields!! 111

seriously, Gallactica and Stargate are the best on TV atm, as for Enterprise.. when is that coming back..?

Gallactica is the coolest , you cant beat Gias, and his lady friend :D. the unique camera work in the CG is great, and it all just blends together very nicely.

and Im really enjoying SG:Atlantis, and SG1... omgz!, when are they gonna get a ZPM! :(

sci-fi have confirmed a second series, and frankly if its even half as good as the first, there's gonna be a third, fourth and fifth no doubt.

I tried to get into SG1 S8 and Atlantis, but couldn't really, and now with my STB having issues with Sky|one I've pretty much had to give up trying, can never catch the repeat episodes on sky|mix so I've missed loads now.

I am sorry, but what is there not to like about sg1 and Atlantis, they are what sci-fi should be, epic space battles, interesting alien races, a bit of humour, a hint of love and characters that you care about.

Sort of...

They're actually organic machines. Or so we found out last week when one was captured

I love the new BSG, just finished watching the first season.(it's on episode 6 or something in the US, but I'm not very patient so I just d/l them all) For me it has a realism and believability that creates a very unique experience in sci-fi, and I thought the writing in the first season was some of the best in any sci-fi series I have ever seen. The visuals are superb aswell.

It is very strange though that a fleet of ragtag ships with only a single warship constantly being attacked by the enemy and in constant retreat would have anything but strict martial law. The intelligent thing, by my accounts, would be to train up as many of the abled body men and women to fight and fly and train them how to repair ships, etc, also teach them first aid and medicine, all controlled by a strict military code commanded from the Galactica.

When the shit hits the fan and all you can do is run and try to survive, voting in democratic elections on a ship filled with gardeners, barmen and useless politicians and is an absolute paradise is absolute bullshit and will do nothing to help humans survive the constant attack. And as for the hardened military personnel, they seem to be as immature and ignorant as that president woman and only seem to care about getting drunk and having sex. There is no feeling of peril amongst them.

I can't say I've ever been interested in that series. Just never appealed to me. :O

But the series is presented around the idea of realism, as realistic as killer robots attacking twelve colonies of humans can be. I just watched it and couldn't enjoy it...it just seemed...pointless. I know you are a massive fan of it Dark Elf, so i am so sorry ;(.

In the UK, yeah.. but in Australia its only just beginning.

There was only 13 episodes in the series for some reason.

Star Trek, Star Gates SUCK

BSG tries to emulate current world not future, that why they have democratic government, witch hunting and crap like that. BSG is a metaphor for the real world

Star Gate isn't the future, it is present day stuff. Like i explained in my other post, bsg is nothing to do with the real world, in anyway, shape or form. In a situation like that, the last thing you want is a democratic government.

yep, and the fact they do it so well i think is why its become so successful so quickly, people can identify with it, its familiar yet different, and its also far from perfect, they screw up, they make mistakes, there's not really been a happy ending that wraps everything up like in star trek and even SG1, which has always annoyed me, how those will mostly wrap things up in a single episode, BSG is more like a very long movie thats been cut up into shorter episodes, and ends up working really well because of it.

That can be both a good thing and a bad thing though. Good thing as it does mean a huge storyline that does progress each weak, a bad thing because it can make it hard to get into if you don't start watching right from the beginning. Stargate and StarTrek both are shown with the emphasis that half the episodes are just single episodes, add a little to the storyline but not much, and then you have the big 2 parter and 3 parter episodes that really help stretch the storyline.

True, but those episodes in a can were born from the very early days when they were done live and nobody could really say what might happen the next week (actors could walk out, anything) and then later it remained because studios would happily cancel at any point (moreso than today) aswell, so it was a safer method. These days though a series is often made at once, with a set being used for the entire seasons shots and not until the editing stage are they all placed back in the correct places/episodes. So now there's really no call for it. Granted it does force a person to watch the whole series, but since the bottom line is money, making people watch or buy the whole thing is gonna make a bigger profit than just buying the odd episode here and there. Not only that but it pushes the sales of the season boxed sets up too, since you effectively have to buy the boxed sets. So I think over time more and more shows are gonna go this route (lexx (season 3/4), firefly, 24, BSG, Atlantis to a lesser degree)

Yes. But I think we're overlooking a highly important issue here. Both Cylon (Boomer and Blondie) are HOOOOOOOOOOOT.
