Something just hit me! About 3 1/2 weeks bofore HW2 was released, there was a promotion for it in the Best Buy ad. I'm willing to bet HL2 will have one in there, around the end of October, if the game is to come out in Nov. I believe HL1 had an early ad, promoting it back in 1998. Then again, this may just be a Sierra thing, Vivendi may not do this...though it would be stupid to under credit the most anticipated game ever. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if Oct 31 comes around with nothing, we can bet it won't be out in Nov. Especially if there's no news from VALVe even...which would be quite sad.

Just a thought I wanted to share.

BTW: One of the very things we need to remember is, since the drama began, time has seemingly slown down with anticipation. It's only been three weeks, not three months. I think we've heard more news from VALVe, than we could expect from anyone else, in this situation.

NO no no, do not speculate or your thread will get closed, apparently if you do not know actuall information about a game that is not out or is not being discussed by the creators you can NOT make a thread because it is just speculation and the mods will close youre thread so watch out

Interesting theory. I can't believe that you remembered about that Half-Life add waaaaaaay back when it was first coming out :p.

was hw2's (what ever that is, homeworld 2?) release date as sketchy as hl2 has been? What I'm trying to say is that if hw2 was well established to be a certain date then it would be logical that an ad would appear for it a few weeks ahead of time. But since there has been so much mystery over hl2's date that no one is certain. I wouldn't use this is as a warning sign for whether hl2 will be soon released.

i bet you saw that ad after the "gone gold" was announced? :D

in that case, there is no point waiting for an ad, just wait for the gold announcement.

note: even the gold announcement won't garantee anything. i won't be satisfied until i touch the cd with my fingers and be able to install it ful and play it smothly.

Knowing how Valve likes to suprise it's customers, I wouldn't be suprised if they announce the new release date only a few days prior to release, if they even make an announcement.

but whatever the release date is, the best thing to do is to lower your expectations to the point where you believe the game will be released in 2005, so you can just not worry about it, that's what i did. I see HL2 as something far off, so if it gets cancelled any more, I won't get pissed off or stressed about it. :afro:

True...

And no, Homeworld 2 had not been announced as GOLD, it went GOLD the week after, though. I remember when Hl was announced in Best Buy, I was surprised, because they had not announced it as GOLD...of course the ad came a week, or so, before the release. And I'm quite willing to guess they'll do the same, this time. That's the only reason I posted this. It wasn't really made so that you could flame me. To those of you that think VALVe has lied so much, why would they tell the truth about announcing when the game has gone GOLD? If they can lie about everything else, why can't they lie and keep it secret - only to announce it right before release?

Just a thought...

Mkay, sorry... I'm editing my sig right now... err, after I type this that is :)

Heaven forbid any Half Life 2 discussion on a Half Life 2 message board.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I'm not trusting any release date given. I know a release date is close when I see Best Buys and the like putting up Ads for it, and they start clearing room in their games section for shelving. And I'm also looking for those little "coming soon" boards and those "reserve your copy here" slips.

Trust me, stores like Best Buys is where Valve's money will be made. They'll keep Best Buys more informed than they'd keep the average consumer. Mainly, the stores need time to prepare for such major releases. Remember Diablo 2? The Best Buys near me was flooded.

How can I say that you need to look out only for those ads and etc?
Sept. 10th, I visit Best Buys. I see no hint whatsoever that HL2 is coming out.
Sept 20th, same thing.
Sept 30th, oh guess what, no game is coming out. I knew it wasn't coming out once I saw that every store in the entire world wasn't prepared for it.

-However, if you were to start a thread like that, it would be promptly locked. So, yes, heaven forbid, or at least the mods do.

YOU TOO!

my god, how could we not let people have long sigs with their system specs in it. i probably wouldnt bother comming back if they made people change that.

They never said that. It's not like you people can't differentiate one sentence, from another. Just don't hit ENTER, after each one.

^ I don't know why I wrote this, I was completely wrong. Most companies deliver statements, VALVe hasn't. But all companies go silent, right before they announce the release. And I doubt Best Buy begins Pre-Sale, 6 months before release, either.

Half-Life 2 discussion, yes. Uninformed speculation about the release date or a detailed analysis of illegal software, no.
