Best musical decade?

They all have loads of merit, so its hard to say.

Personally, I like the 80s by a landslide. Just too many unbelievable gems from this period in every genre of music. A great period of experimentation and I love the influence technology had on the sound of much of the music :borg:.

Seriously, the greatest era EVER in the history of the world was the 1980s - this extends not only to music (with awesome acts like Flock of Seagulls) but also to everything else - there was no better time to be alive, and I don;t think there will ever be a better decade, period. :smoking:

I think each genre had its own best decade, and since I like quite a few genre's, I'm not gonna vote.
 
The 60's because of the Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Gram Parsons, Santana, Janis Joplin, Van Morrison .... I could go on and on.
The 90's are my runner up. Grunge and the rise of dance music. And Britney Spears of course.
 
Mid-late 80's and early 90's, height of Metallica, Guns, Maiden and the grunge era...great times
 
I would of loved to have been around in the mid-60's so I could go to the small Pink Floyd shows with Syd. Then later, go to all the shows with Roger, and get to see The Wall live in the 80's.
 
I voted the 70's, you got ur Iggy, your Bowie, Zeppy, FLoydy at there peak, Late Beatlesy/Doorsly, ur Rushes( the poor mans led zeppelin);).

90's are a close second with Nirvana, RHCP Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer( first two albums) Radiohead, Radiohead, RADIOHEAD=OK COMPUTER!!!! My Bloody Valentine, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pavement etc etc.

This decade is turning out real well, KidA=Brilliant, Funeral=Brilliant, Modest Mouse has two very solid albums out, Sufjan Stevens illinous is mind blowingly good, Wolf Parade are growing on me, The Strokes Is this it was an instant classic( even if it couldn't live up to the hype) and room on fire's a worthy purchase. Arlur is good fun etc.
 
The 90`s in Englanf for me, the whole Britpop thing got me into music, so that holds a special place for me.
 
60s to 70s
And did I just hear "Flock of Seagulls" invoked against Bob Dylan?
 
60's by a landslide. I mean, there's some amazing music now, but back then... *drool*
 
00's have been great so far and have a few years to go still. If not 00's than easily the 90's.

but then that's because I HATE eighties synthpop.
 
If you have ANY musical knowledge of era's you know the 60's / 70's is where its at. I honestly can't think of anything else that comes close!
 
90's ere. Grunge era (my favourite genre), when rap wasn't overplayed and it was still cool to listen to mellow songs like "1979". RHCP, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Silverchair....ah it was awesome.
 
Most good musicians from the 60's released their best stuff in the 70's. The 60's gets the credit because that's where it all started, but you can encapsulate the vast majority of the good classic rock (the stuff that defines rock to this day) in the 70's.

The only decade that comes close is the nineties, simply because of grunge, rap, and alternative.
 
60s for me. The 90s is a close second though for reasons already listed here.

I can't decide between the 60s and the 70s. My next choice would be now... because of how easy (compared to how it was) and inexpensive it has become for people to record their own music, get exposure, and distribute it over the Internet. On second thought, since Jimi Hendrix died and the Beatles disbanded in 1970, I'm going to go with the 60s.

Early 90's ruled dude. I couldn't even begin to tell you where to start. Ignore what the radio stations where playing because we all know about Nirvana and Pearl Jam but seriously many classic albums came out back then. It was a great musical era and it was much much better than now....Franz Ferninandnend eeewww....:cheese:

WARNING: I might be a little biased since 80% of the music I listen to came out between 1990 and 1995.
