Best weapon binds for keyboard and mouse?

Hello everyone. I'm trying to learn some tips and advice concering weapon binds (and other stuff one might bind in HL2) for the keyboard and mouse.

I have a Logitech G5 mouse, and just a regular 15.00 dollar Microsoft straight keyboard, :O When I play Unreal Tournament 2004, I found it to be crucial to have all of my weapons bound to either my keyboard or my mouse, so that I could very quickly click on the exact weapon I needed in various fighting/combat situations so that I could kill very efficiently. Rolling the mousewheel around and around trying to get the right weapon is very ineffecient in my opinion.

Also, does anyone know of a way that I could change the color of my crosshair to a neon green instead of the default white?

I usually just use the number keys, and sometimes (like in Source games) Q for fast weapon switch to last weapon.

Have you tried shifting to esdf? Theoretically this'll give your little finger extra keys to reach. I always figured if I needed extra control binds that I'd get a mouse with a bundle of buttons on it and use those.

I don't know about that, every time I've ever used one of the fancy gaming mice that have like eight buttons I always just end up hitting them by accident, which is annoying, especially if they control sensitivity or something.

I do apologise, but even in all hl2/hl1 mods i use the default key setups, because coincidentally, i find they are quite ergonimcally pleasing

I use number keys mainly, because I seem to have gotten really fast at them.
