BIG Problem! Crashes on save

Can some wise person help me?

I have been playing HL2 happily for a while now when all of a sudden about an hour ago the game began crashing to windows every time I save the game AND everythime I reach an autosave point.
The error message I get is "Couldn't write bitmap data snapshot"

I think its getting stuck capturing the little screenshot for the save game menu.

Are the any code people who can help me either fix the problem, or make it so the game doesn't autosave every few minutes?

check ur gfx drivers and others but mainly gfx, validate hl2 or reinstall it
