Big Problem With HL II..Pls Help!

hi.i just got half life 2 and i am having a big problem with it. whenever i play whether it be a new game or a loaded one the A.I do not respond. All the A.I and helicopters just stand there and do nothing. They dont talk or anything. Even in the beginning when Gman is spose to say stuff to you, you just see him but his lips dont move and their is no audio. Its really weird and really startin to piss me off. if you could help that would be great. my comps specs are: Amd 64 3500+ processsor, 1gb ram, ati 9550 video card(256 meg).
