Bink vid style - shot down gunship

One thing i was REALLY disappointed with in hl2, was the way you couldnt shoot down gunships like shown in Bink vid "coastline". (as in you shoot it down and it comes hovering down and slides to a stop) VERY COOL.

So i played thru the whole of the game not seeing one gunship getting shot down like this. They just blew up into pieces in mid air.

THEN i played it again on hard and i think it's the first time you fight a gunship, but the bit with the car-wreckage on the road on coastline bit, i shot one down and it was AMAZING!!

it looks like you have to shoot it down above land otherwise it explodes into pieces.

I know a LOT of people will go "yeah we know :\" but as i played through on medium difficulty and didnt see one gunship do it, i'm guessing im not the only one.

I'm sorry, but that looks really Photoshopped to me, it doesn't even cast a shadow, it looks out of place. No offense if I'm wrong though.

EDIT: now that I look at it, looks like the shadow is being cast away from the view. Again, sorry if I'm wrong.

I shot the same one down and it crashed right next to me, I had to use the freakin manipulator to stop a car from crushing me. :thumbs:

i'd guess they did the blowing up cause they found places where it would get in the way/stop you from continuing by blocked path in some cases

I didn't change the difficult level at all (so it was teh defult level.. dunno what that is) and that exact thing happened to me too... I thought it didn't die so I kept shooting at it

Yeah this happened to me my first time,Doesnt change with Difficulty.Its really cool and organic when ya hit it.Knocked a car into me the first time,nearly died.

Yeah, it happened to me at the exact same spot. Maybe it blows up if it falls for a long time?

well you can move it with the manipulator and jump on it so i wouldnt see a problem with it.

(it'd suck to take one down that took a long time then cant get by it )

I had all gunships except those in Nova Prospekt do that. Pretty cool. I took the time to knock them off the road into the water with the Manipulator.

Okay, I believe you now, my apologies

But I was also disappointed by it, because they do react very cool to being hit by a missile, you really see the physics have its effect on it. It was really cool to see it was aware of missiles being fired at it and tried to dodge it and shoot it down (often with succes).

It has such a beautiful design! Just like the dropship, such awesome animations, and flawless execution of the concept pic we saw a while back.

They are strangely beautiful in a way, aren't they? The way they move, the organic patterning on their shells.

They remind me of some strange water creature.

If you can get them to hit the ground before they finish exploding, they beach like that, and then u can have fun bumping there ragdoll around with the grav gun.

mine landed on the ground when i killed it...i remember thinking the "eyes" or what it is looked cool...

Yeah, I've killed at least one I remember that slid to a stop. They are oddly beautiful things.
