Black screen in Episode 1

At the beginning of the second chapter of HL2: Episode 1 the screen goes black as soon as I move forward about 10 feet. I can only see the HUD, not anything else. I can still move, hear, use the gravity gun, and interact. If I move back, however, to before the screen goes black then everything returns to normal and I can see the environment. And apparently it does the same thing in the opening scene. I hear the vortigons and the Gman, but everything is black. What is the problem and how can I fix it. Help would be very much apprieciated

No. I dont even have the console enabled

ahh i had the problem with the intro being complete black, prior to this steam promted me saying my Drivers needed updating, i ignored that and continued untill i saw the blackness, i updated drivers and now everything is the way it should be, maybe thats what you need to do.

Yeah I get that message too, but when i tried to update my driver it didn't work. I got a whole bunch of error messages. Maybe I'll try again, where do you go to update your drivers?

I tried to update the driver, but I get a window that pops up titled "severe" and it says: "INF Error Video Driver not found".

hahahahahahahahaha. The weird thing is that my computer runs the regular half-life 2 just fine.

If it runs Half-Life 2 and Counterstrike just fine, why does it flip out when I play Episode 1?

Maybe you have the graphics options set too high. Try turning off HDR in the options. And get the latest ATi drivers.

OK, so i changed the "Color Corection" to Disabled and it worked!!! No more blackness! But, is that change of that option going to effect the way the game runs in the long run?
