Black & White 2 DEMO

just don't get the game, it's crap (how big of a pile ranges from person to person) seriously I made the mistake of getting it before I did any research. the only thing it really has going for it is the pretty graphics (and the creature fights)

and now their making an expansion for it. YAY! if I want the game as it should have been I have to pay MORE money.

it definatley wasn't as good as I was expecting, but after this latest patch I've started playing it again (since I finally have a playable framerate) and I find it somewhat mediocre. It feels more like a "game" per-se than the original, but for me that is not a good thing.

sooo overhyped...just like the first one it sounds...

haven't tried it yet, but I don't really want to either....so meh...

I might try the demo, It's not exactly my cup of tea gaming style (RTS games, "Sim-esque" games etc), but that's what the demo is for.

Is it really as bad as people are saying? How so?

Good thing I didnt buy it...saved me 50 bucks. The demo only made me feel better about my decision not to buy it

its not as bad as some people say. It's more of an RTS than the first one, which was more like a sim, or populous. The problem is, its not enough of an RTS to make the RTS portion of the game good. There are three, count them THREE unit types. And they've added goals to the game, which gives you some form of "money" so you can buy miracles and buildings. If it were more like a real RTS I would rather be able to research these new techs than "buy" them. The building style in the game, however is absolutley brilliant. You can pick up buildings and then place a copy of them somewhere to be built, and you simply drag roads out and they make lovely little splines(and you can do the same to the walls). The creature AI is the same as in the last game (which is pretty good, it made it into the guiness book of world records) except this time you can see exactley what your creature is thinking, which makes it slightly less frustrating. The graphics are extremley good for an RTS, but they are also TERRIBLY unoptomized. At first I only got 16 FPS on my 9800 pro with 2 gigs of ram and an Athalon 3500+, but the patcfh brought it up to 28 or so (which is still pretty bad)

the problem with this game is that it tried to be too many things, and ended up giving a poor experience in all areas. The RTS element of the game is laughable, the city building is not terribly in depth, and the creature, although expandable and pretty smart, is really annoying. I would rather they have either gone wayy further into the RTS element and added cavalry, more seige weapons, more options for defense and more unit types, or simply gone the way of the original and had your takeovers based on "beleif" rather than impressiveness.

I'm not so sure how it got into the world records, all you do is move some sliders till your happy, it's just a robot really not really quirks between the specials or anything, a tiger will be the same as a cow if you set the sliders the same. the city building is nice I don't disagree but that and the creature fights and graphics are the only decent things.

I'm used to features being removed from a game, it's a natural thing but the story?! it's all gone except:

the aztecs are kicking the greeks asses so some dude calls for some godly help *POOF* you now exist and help the greeks kick random island inhabitants asses before you finally kick the head aztec guys ass.

they killed the enemy AI, literally it's just some scripts saying if player has done this move army to X point/repeat (but they will just wait there till your mercy kill them) or if they have a epic meriacle they will use it at X time.

the combat between infantry and archers is pretty weak aswell. 9.5 times out of ten you just needed archers as the enemy infantry would either run by you and ignore you or make some piss poor attack.

thats just to name a few things. (like the exclusion of any other game modes like skirmish!)

hmm...wasnt too happy with demo...Hand control seems a bit finicky at times. and my creature was a bit of a dolt! Like some of the new training creature things and capturing towns makes it a lot easier to gain control

However, battles werent that great. Overall, im kinda glad i didnt buy it...Maybe i will try it again but *nyeah*

Well, actually, even in Black and White 1 the AI was completely screwey. But now they just removed it and replaced it with scripts.

And it's a bit like Good = sim Bad = rts. It removes the element of being a god and replaces it with two games in one - ones that you didn't want, anyway. The system they chose for conversion or capture is weird and strange. They could've advanced the creature AI more. And I hated the new throwing engine, but that's just me.

i have it, i played it, i thought it was WAY to..um..er..like...to...godish the creature was really...ugh.. the soldiers were alright...but it was frustrating at times

It wasn't goddish enough, that's what I'm saying.

I thought the placing houses and roads was fun, but that's about it. Why is the creature even there? You don't even need him for anything.

The point was the creature. And the godding. The creature is there for fun. If you don't like him, leash him to a rock and leave him there.

B&W1 was far better gameplay wise tbh.

This is superior graphic/town building-wise.
