We have a film/dvd/tv section, an art and design section, and of course the music + musician section. Why not a book section?

I've thought about this before. We have enough readers on this board to make it worthwhile.

I really don't think we do.

Not that I think the small number of book threads we have had is any indication of how busy a book forum would be; which is apparantly the logic moderators use to justify new forums; which is completely flawed; because the noob section was very active; but now that its gone you dont see noob threads left and right; I've proved my point.

:thumbs:It's got my vote!

Although my vote is completely meaningless and injected with poison.

I wouldn't mind seeing a dedicated forum. If it's anything like the Music forum there will be recommendations left, right and centre which, to me at least, is nothing but a good thing. Not to mention that given the space to say it, the banter regarding a single book, it's plot, characters, setting or style should be something special and worth having a dedicated space to say it.

I know I'd use it a hell of a lot, anyway. Discworld and The Walking Dead threads!

I definitely support a book forum, alongside the movie and music forums! We's lit'rit.

Hmm. I guess if it's anything like the music forum it'd be a good thing.

It's true that there aren't many book and magazine threads but if there was a forum for them I know I'd make them.

Considering the long history of literature, I'm sure we could manage to talk it as much as we talk about films and music. Personally I'm in favour of this. Mainly because I'm an English student.

Oh, I'm sure Jin and I could do something about there not being enough comics threads if we had a book forum.

I could be all fake-highbrow and battle with you even though in reality I love comics.

Well, that's three of us then. That's like, enough to be a team.

Like some kinda...league...or something...

A league...of nations? BECAUSE THAT REALLY WORKED OUT WELL THE LAST TIME.

I'd certainly make a share of manga threads.

It's got my vote. I can never make my mind up when choosing a Book to buy so seeing a regular amount of recommendations would make it easier :)

Good idea. But I probably wouldn't participate, I haven't managed to find much time for books recently :p

Really want to read that latest Terry Pratchett book :(

In a good way, such a forum may encourage more people to pick up books that they wouldn't have known about previously.

I say this because I've tried and tested a lot of music suggestions from HL2.net and the majority have been wonderful discoveries.

Give a hoot, read a book?

Truth.

C'mon, I want to make a The Walking Dead topic!

Yes! I approve of this thread!

Give a hoot, Share your loot!

I am going to sacrifice one bullsquid a day until we get a book forum!

Books? Are those things like eBooks? :O

# a written work or composition that has been published (printed on pages bound together); "I am reading a good book on economics"
# physical objects consisting of a number of pages bound together; "he used a large book as a doorstop"
# ledger: a record in which commercial accounts are recorded; "they got a subpoena to examine our books"
# a number of sheets (ticket or stamps etc.) bound together on one edge; "he bought a book of stamps"
# record: a compilation of the known facts regarding something or someone; "Al Smith used to say, `Let's look at the record'"; "his name is in all the record books"
# a major division of a long written composition; "the book of Isaiah"
# script: a written version of a play or other dramatic composition; used in preparing for a performance

# a collection of rules or prescribed standards on the basis of which decisions are made; "they run things by the book around here"
# reserve: arrange for and reserve (something for someone else) in advance; "reserve me a seat on a flight"; "The agent booked tickets to the show for the whole family"; "please hold a table at Maxim's"
# Koran: the sacred writings of Islam revealed by God to the prophet Muhammad during his life at Mecca and Medina
# engage for a performance; "Her agent had booked her for several concerts in Tokyo"
# register in a hotel booker
# Bible: the sacred writings of the Christian religions; "he went to carry the Word to the heathen"

Return from a Google for "define: Book". There doesn't seem to be any mention of virtual data such as "eBooks".

I don't read much, but that's because I don't know of any good books, which a book forum would probably help me out with..

So I agree, we should have a book forum.

But even if the mods agreed we wouldn't see it until 2009, we've still got the Bioshock forum...

Commence: filling lounge with book threads. It has begun
Evilmilk contributed whether he wanted to or not.

Frankly I would love a book forum but I don't see ANY demand for it (sorry, five or ten book threads in the history of this forum isn't enough) and so I think it's a poor idea.

Feel free to make book threads though, in OT.

I think if the area was there for use it would get a whole load of hits and, like the music forum, recommendations and general discussion regarding writers, stories, etc, would be pretty big.

I mean, we had a Bioshock area and what was the demand for that? A few threads which, to my knowledge, didn't even get as far as the Crysis, Halo 3 or Mass Effect threads we've seen as of recent. And it was pretty obvious that once the game was finished give or take one or two months after release it was going to die, what with no multiplayer and all of the singleplayer discussed to death within the first weeks of release (''scariest moments'', ''easter eggs/secret stuff'', ''omg atlas wut???'', etc) and all. Few threads later on about patches, fixes, computer problems and the odd person who has finally got around to playing it but yeah, that was it.

Can't it not be doubled with the fan-fiction area, or take that over completely? That place is pretty much dead so surely it could just take it's spot and debunk that to a sub area or something?
