Are there any fiction books that are very similar to this story?

Harry Potter.

Steve King's The Running Man, The Stand... and H.G. Wells' War Of The Worlds, I guess.

yeah harry potter, not so much. I read farenheit 451, I didnt like it, but I will read 1984. Is the rasing the bar book a fiction novel? thats what im looking for.

Brave New World, 1984, Atlas Shrugged and Fahrenheit 451.

All good books.

Atlas Shrugged is neither a good book nor much reminiscent of Half-Life...

Raising the Bar is not fiction, it's history about HL2's development, with a bunch of early / alternate concept art and cut story information.

who is the author of brave new world? thanks a lot guys keep em comin

Brave New World is by Aldous Huxley.

Brave New World is definitely a good book, but in my opinion is hugely different to every plot point of Half-Life 2 other than being a Dystopian future. 1984 is a lot closer, but Half-Life 2 seems pretty unique in terms of throwing aliens into an Orwellian setting.

If anybody was wondering the same thing i was, many novels by the authors robert heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and HG Wells.
