A Brazilian judge has confirmed a ban, first ordered in October last year, for first person shoot ?em-up Counter-Strike and massively multiplayer online game EverQuest, on grounds that they incite violence and are ?harmful to consumers? health?.

According to an AFP report the Brazilian consumer protection agency in the central state of Goias has confirmed the move via its website, although the ban has not yet been implemented.

The report suggests that the ban for Counter-Strike may be due to a mod set in Rio de Janerio which allows users to play as a police officer or narcotics trafficker, instead of the usual terrorist and anti-terrorist teams. The reasons for the singling out of the aging EverQuest are less clear, with no mention made of other popular massively multiplayer online games such as World of WarCraft.

Judge Carlos Alberto Simones described the games as encouraging ?the subversion of public order? and that they ?were an attack against the democratic state and the law and against public security."

Yeah, right.

I fully admit I was thinking of Gisele when reading your post ..as a result I got a semi when I read the word "ass"

:O

/\lol

also fail Brazilian Consumer Protection Agency.

Adriana Lima! <3

Well, normally I'm against censorship like that, but I don't think Brazil is making a bad choice.

It's Counter-Strike ffs.

Hahaha! You got a semi when I mentioned my ass. :o You dirty thing!

And seriously, they are going to have to ban every moddable game in order to keep sliding down their slippery slope.

They basically ban anything without chicks with dicks.

Why are they banning Everquest and not WoW? Also, how can one judge decide to ban these games in Brazil?

Ban as in it can't be sold, or can't be played? If the former, it's going to mean squat as anyone who was going to play these games has them already (and CS can be easily downloaded). If the latter, how would they even enforce that, and what kind of penalties would there be for playing a video game?

Since when has a ban stopped people from playing a game? Hint: DL.

Steam can prevent certain nationailties from playing certain games.

Stern's post came with sexy ladies, though, so I don't know whether to be offended at Brazil + Censorship or just drool...

One of the world's shittier countries just got... well, shittier.

I am from there my friend. But I accept your statement because it's your opinion.

I don't play CS anyway.:O

Not that this will stop anyone, it will be the same. It's just stupid.

There are like ten CS servers configured to run with those, yes.

That is Rio. I don't live there. I am far away from there, I live to the south, I am in peace

And I think I'm never going to Rio.

I live in the area I marked. Much better, in my opinion. Crime rates in here are not even close to the crime rates in rio.

I keep opening this thread, just to oggle the Brazilians in the OP.

Taviow: do you listen to either Possuido Pelo Cao or Ratos de Porao? They are two of my favorite things Brazillian. Them and the "haircut" and the round azz/thong combo. :D

It certainly sounds like they should worry more about real crime instead of focusing on virtual violence (of which only 50% is anti-establishment and terrorist).

The ban will be about as implementable as jailing everyone who has hair on their heads.
