I think it's my monitor, but in pretty much all games I have to jack up my brightness, gamma, etc in order to see. In HL2 there is this one little bar for brightness, and there is a really small range.
It says to turn the brightness up until you can say three groups of text or something...well I can't see any text at all.
I love this game, but it's really annoying playing in such darkness. Is there any other way to turn up my brightness? Maybe a console command?

well i used to have brightness problems.. i posted in the Hardware & Software section and a good soul pointed me to PowerStrip.
its a program which allows u to change settings at desktop and in-game.
ever since i got this program i have been very happy.. and my eyes are thanking me for giving the program a try.

check it out.. and good luck.

Bah, I tried the program out, and it definitely ups the brightness..
But, right when I open HL2, the brightness goes down.
Theres gotta be some sort of console command to turn gamma up or something, I know there is in Doom 3.

before running HL2, right-click on powerstrip in the task bar area and select "hotkey manager" under options.

then set the shortcut keys to brightness, gamma and contrast.
next do the same except this time go to "color" and configure that stuff to something u like.

then try it.
if the brightness is still low.. use the shortcut keys u have set.

Awesome! It works. Thanks a lot dude, this was getting on my nerves in cs:s too. Yay, I'm happy.
