Bugs! Ahh!

Hey all. Ever since I downloaded the demo about 2 weeks ago I've been having problems with glitches in the game.

I'm wondering how many others have seen these and if Valve is going to do something about them soon.

The first bug I encountered was in the demo. I didn't yet know about the gravity gun, and how it could pull the saw blades out of the doorway. So, I was crawling underneath. When the zombie came at me I tried to back out. I ended up getting stuck under the table. I tried everything to get out, but after a few seconds I was instantly killed. Just before I died I had over 90 health.

This bug has plauged me the most. It's easy to get it when you're in one of the last passages of the Route Kanal. There's a part where you are supposed to step off a plank to go down a level. I stepped off four times today, the first three I died instantly. I could tell it had something to do with getting stuck, because when I stepped off I didn't freefall, rather, I went slowly down. The fourth time I jumped, and that solved the problem.



The second bug I noticed while playing the Water Hazard chapter. It was during that part with the tunnel and the crates. Unfortunately, before I could get to the crates the tunnel in front of me disappeared. I couldn't go forward. I tried reloading the save, but the game was completely borked. It wouldn't show the menu right, and I couldn't answer whether or not to save the old one becasue there was no "yes" or "no" buttons. So, I had to reboot the machine.

That bug has occured about 3 or 4 times now, 2 times in Water Hazard.



The third bug was the one in the 13th chapter. I lost the ability to jump, and lets just say jumping was nessesary. I happened right after I got off the tram.

That one only happened once, but I have heard from others that it is a known problem. I had to restart the whole chapter to fix it.


One last bug could have just been my machine locking up. I was replaying Water Hazard on a higher difficulty level, and the game froze. The audio was caught in a repetitve loop, and the hard drive was really active for about 30 seconds, before it became inactive. This was right after the first U-turn on that chapter. The thing is, my machine has been at 100% activity for the past 6 months, 24/7, and this was the first time it locked up.


Anyway, who else has had one or more of these things happen to them? When do you think they will be solved?

Was this just in the demo or in the actual game. I didn't read the whole thing, so I might have missed where you specified that.

I have had problems with all of the bugs in the full game.

HL2 and the demo both should have a bug submitter built in, which will send in a bug report straight to valve. Try typing bug in console
 
If anyone is having those bugs, then they must be pretty rare 'cause I haven't heard of anything similar. Have you tried verifying your files?

You know, I'd like to see a screenshot. I would like to see something.
 
the first bug you described is not really a bug, its the physics engine, when you get stuck, you go downwards really slowly, then when your completely out, it throws you really fast to the ground, so not a bug, just the physics
 
WEll, indeed you're right!!! even in the full game... it still has alot of damn bugs.

I validated my HL2 files, but unfortunatley it didn't give me any kind of report.

It did, however, go from 83% back down to 82% and then back to 83%, so it's possible I had one bad file.

Oh, by the way. Did anyone here have a problem with Barney after he climbs down from the roof? He was supposed to lead the way, but he just stood in front of the rubble pile shouting "come on Gordon, this way."

Eventually I found that I could push him onto the rubble pile where he then went to open the gate.
