Does anyone know a good site where I could find the components to build my own computer. Also since I don't know how to build my own computer couldn't I jsut take it to a computer shop and they'd put it together for a small fee? My dad might know how to do it himself but I'm not sure.

The best way to go about building a computer is to do a lot of research before hand.

If you are not technically minded, then please do not even attempt this. In this case, just buy a pre-built machine, or go to one of the smaller computer companies (easily found on the NET), and ask them to build you a custom system.

I build my own computers, for years now. There is no short way around this. However, the pleasure you get from getting everything working the first time, is just priceless :cheese:

www.pricegrabber.com seemed to have the best prices when I built my system (P4 3.2Ghz, back in late july), but I hear www.newegg.com has the best return policy (and it's consistent since you're dealing with just one company whereas pricegrabber only gives links to other companies which you would do the actual buying from). Personally, I know a LOT about computers and did tonnes of research for my new PC and STILL ran into problems, my case and dvd did not fit together (you can get the dvd in but the screw holes don't line up), and the very expensive corsair memory I brought does not work at the advertised timings, so I have to use it in a slower mode. :flame: The situation should be better now since the 875/865 (I assume you're going intel) have been out longer and people are more aware of the bugs compared to when I purchased, but you're still looking at a lot of research and one little oversight on your part could mean weeks of waiting for RMAs to clear and new parts to cross ship. What am I getting at? If I were a semi-noob, I'd buy from an oem. OEM systems won't have incompatible parts, ever. HP has very cheap systems, and www.ibuypower.com has very customizable systems for pretty cheap with very good parts, but not as cheap as HP with their generic parts. Alienware has good looking cases and pretty good parts. I'd avoid dell and gateway, price doesn't justify the generic parts they use, if you're going to get generic parts might as well get an HP and save a bundle.

Pricewatch.com is the obvious first choice. And NewEgg is a respectable company (even if they don't have the cheapest prices).

If you want cheap prices and buy each component from a different seller use pricewatch or something similar.

If you want reliable service without a headache and good prices newegg.com is the way to go.

I would never order from pricewatch. Who wants to order from 16 different vendors? Some things would arrive in a day, some in a month. When something goes wrong, that sucks even more. On top of it all most places that are cheap have some real crappy reseller ratings. Newegg would be your #1 choice.

It all depends on how significant the price differance is......

If i can save a few 100$ by going with 2-3 differant vendors...ill do it.
