Well, I decided to go ahead and buy the silver package because I want to play CS:S and I dont feel like sitting there and installing HL2 with 6 freakin discs! I still would like a box and cd case though ;). But, I've seen that you can burn all the games, well how do you do this? Will Steam have an option to burn them, or do you have to burn them manually by burning the Steam folder? Thanks in advance for any help.

I think this has already been posted before but I will try to explain anyways. I think you would have to go into the Steam folder and burn them to a disk. But this might take some time since blank CDs can't hold that much stuff. (the ones I use atleast) So you will have to pick and choose files that will go on each CD. Someone correct me on anything that is wrong. (I bet most of it is.)

So, basically after a clean install of Windows, I would install Steam, then put the folders (games) I burned and there would be no problems at all?

Well each game is located in a GCF file located in the SteamApps folder in your steam directory. So what you will need to do is just brun each of the GCF files onto a disk. But most of them probobly can't fit on a CD-R, so you will need a DVD-R. Remeber this is just for backup purposes though

It should work like that. But since noone has the game it's kind of hard to be 100% sure. Someone else might post and put it into more detail.

just get winrar. add steam folder to archive. set chunk size on bottom left to cd size chunks, and thats it. click on SFX to make a self extracting exe that will ask for CDS when it wants them, like a regular game install if you want too

Yes, that is right. If you are planning on burning the CDs then selling them to friends or something is illegal I don't know if burning it then giving it to your friends for free is legal or not.

Yes this works. I've done it with CS: S. You can copy your whole steam folder over so you just have to drag and drop the cd back to your hard drive and it works straight away. Or you can just copy the GCF Files, then when you format make sure yah put them back into the STeamApp folder.

If your burning to CD use something like WINRAR so you can span one file to 2 cd's if you need to. :)

No, I dont plan on doing that. I like to reinstall Windows and have a clean install and I dont feel like waiting for the games to download. :afro:

You can charge them for the cd and yuor services tho :) BUt the files are useless to them anyway unless they bought em on steam. There's a game store here that does that for people.

That is a good idea, but I dont get how to do it, could you explain it better? Exactly, what do I burn? Sorry, I'm stupid.

OK, go into your steam folder. Go to the folder called 'SteamApps' and burn all the GCF files in there. You wont need to copy the folder thats named with your UserID, it will re-create itself when you open up steam for the first time and play a game.

rf

edit: use wizard, it is easier, as i didnt kave winrar b4 this afternoon

ok, all you have to do is right click the file you want. Click 'Add to archive' this will have a lil WinRAR icon next to it.

THen another dialog will popup with things like filename etc, see the dropdown box with 'Split to volumes'? Change that to 650m or 700m cd's (depending how big of ones you have). Then in the archiving options check the box 'Create SFX archive'. That will make it a self extratcing file :).

Hope this helps.

PAY ATTENTION.. you have been given the answer and the tools and yet you keep asking..

Copy/Zip/Burn the contents of the Steamapps folder (Minus your UserID folder)

I copied all the gcf files onto dvd, took them to my friends house because I wanted to show him css. So he downloaded steam and installed it then he exited out of steam. I opened up the steamapps folder and pasted all the gcf files from dvd back to this folder just like they are set up on my pc. Started steam back up tried to play css but it said it was at 0%. Had to wait 2 hours to dl css files to his pc as well as hl2 preload just to show him css with my account. So for some reason it didn't work for. Don't know what I did wrong. Actually I don't think I did anything wrong.

YOU PAY ATTENTION. I already knew that, I asked what to burn when using WinRAR and using the SFX option. I was askin if I just burn the .exe file. So please...dont say 'pay attention' when YOU are not. I know what to burn now, so thanks to Yombi and everybody that helped.

Plus, might I add, I already stated I didnt have a DVD burner so that option would be out because I dont want to use alot of CD's.

Also, another question Yombi. What do I actually add to the archive, or err, best option to add? The .gcf files or the actually game folders? Or, would I be able to just add my steamapps folder to the archive and set it to be a self-extracting .exe without having any problems? I want the best option to avoid any problems.
