Buying new Ram

Hey, I want to get another stick of ram for my computer and my setup for the momemt is Athlon XP 2800+, A7N8X Mobo, 2x256mb RAM PC2700 and the thing is, I have 3 ram slots and two have been occupied with 256 mb sticks so I was just gonna stick a stick of 512 in the third one so i would have 1 gig of ram but i heard that having your ram in that configuration is bad and would have better performance by just getting another 256 stick and only having 768 mb of ram. Is that true, because I really would like 1 gig of ram. Thanks for the input

I had a 64 stick and shoved a 128 to make 192. Didn't seem to run as fast as it should, but this was just on stuff like Day of Defeat (comp =ed teh sux)

That should work fine. Put the biggest stick in the first slot - but be sure it's 2700.
