Anyone played this game yet? I'd like to but I dont have an xbox, so looks like I'll be waiting for the pc version, whenever that happens to be...:(

I thought that game had come out like, a year ago, but I keep seeing these flash ads for it on gamespy, maybe I had seen a preview or something.

i have been waiting for this game more or less since it was announced a few years ago - since i don't have an xbox I will have to wait for it to (hopefully) come out on pc.

until then i will be playing "shadow of the comet", which is also a game based on Lovecraft - you should be checking it out - its quite old but still good ;-)

I too have been waiting for this one. It seems to have gotten pretty good reviews for the xbox and I will definitely be getting it for the PC when it comes out (I love just about anything Lovecraft). Here's a link to the IGN review.

And Shadow of the Comet?? I am glad people are still playing that one--its a great adventure game! I still have the original box it came in! Enjoy!

Funniest thing I've read in a long time. (Hint: Metallica might have borrowed the idea from a certain writer that starts with an HP and ends in Lovecraft).

And I played it start to finish. Its got some cool stuff for Lovecraft nuts, and at times has a great setpiece or twist to it. That said, the fact that its been in development for a large amount of time is painfully obvious, and you'll see plenty of environments and other things that look like they belong on the Dreamcast or even an N64, along with some really suspect AI sometimes.

I'd reccomend a rental and you can purchase it if you like, or even better rent, steal, or buy a Gamecube and play Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Its not expressly based in Lovecraft's mythos but it borrows very heavily from it and is a great game.

I have been meaning to, but I don't have an Xbox, and my PC (my other, that can actually handle the Source engine) is undergoing repairs. The PS2 version was recently "canceled" but I still see different release dates from different retailers, sites, etc....

Or possibly the metallica song was based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft? I mean, damnit, don't kids read books anymore?

The PS2 version was cancelled, so I missed out on this game.

YES! I love that game, not exactly scary, but it plays a lot of tricks with your mind, and I love the whole Lovecraftian setting. And the going through different periods in time.

I'd recommend it too.

It was in fact based on the Lovecraft mythos. And yes, kids do read. In fact, I read some of the most fantastic and wonderful literature thanks to metal bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden and others writing songs about great books! Hopefully people realize that these bands aren't just about making noise or angering your parents or your lawyer(;))--they are so much more than that! \m/ \m/

Whats the point of telling a story through a videogame thats already been told in a book? No creativity. The song is better.

Well for starters, the fact that its not a story from any book, not as such. Lovecraft does have a great short story called "The Call of Cthulhu" (which started the whole mythos), but the game stitches together places and events from multiple stories including The Shadow Out of Innsmouth, Call of Cthulhu, and the Shadow Out of Time. It is its own original work in how it spins these elements together.

And the idea that videogames can't be created based upon pre-existing works is stupid and foolish.

Well the general concensus is its a pretty good game. Now comes the wait for it to come out on pc;(

I'm still waiting for this on the PC. I started playing Shadow of the Comet like 8 years ago on my Pentium 75Mhz, 8 MB RAM, 1MB video card. I couldn't beat it though. A few years later I started playing from the beginning to the point where I got stuck and used a walkthrough all the way to the end, just to be able to see the whole story. I'm not too good at adventure games of this type, many times the choices you want to make, that seem logical to you, don't work ("I can't do this" etc.).

Excellent game, I`m near the end now, and it`s got some good gameplay, with some nice twists and turns.

How are you going to base a computer game off of an instrumental music peace?
Seriously.

Coming in 2007:
The 1812 Overture! Based on Tchaikovsky's famous work!

Reviews: Audio is incredible, but graphics and storyline were lacking.

At first I was like Call of Cthulhu? Isn't that like a 20 year old game for the PC? But here is the answer to why it sounds so familiar.
HP Lovecraft
My brothers had the boxed set HP Lovecraft Book collection (coolest ****ing cover art of any books ever, damn that stuff was wicked! And was pretty freaky to look at when I was like 10 years old .. "i don't think I want to read that!")
Check out some of the book art:
lovecraft11md.jpg

lovecraft21dc.jpg

a Metallica song.
Also, I'm a huge Metallica fan, not as much as I was when I was a kid though, when this song was new.

I noticed another Lovecraft game here while searching images, looks pretty cool for something I've never heard of:
http://www.cdaccess.com/html/pc/necronom.htm

Looks like a Myst type game for multiple platforms. I didn't really care for Myst but I might like this because its more wicked and bizarre

heres what they say about Necromonicon:
The first adventure game to be directly inspired by the writings of HP Lovecraft.

» Call Of Cthulhu Developer Going Under?

Fan site Callingcthulhu.com is reporting that Headfirst, the UK based developer of the recent first person action-adventure game Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth has gone "into administration", meaning that the developer's assets are under control by outside means and are trying to pay off any outstanding debts before Headfirst shuts down completely. Message board postings on the official Headfirst web site indicate that the development team have found other jobs with a variety of other companies. Call Of Cthulhu was released for the Xbox last October with a PC version due for release this week. This likely means that the other Call Of Cthulhu game, Destiny's End, will likely never see the light of day.

****. This would have controlled much better on PC. I've seen some video's and this game looks hot. The effects when you shoot people looks really cool. The video's really show it as being a great game, with great graphics, but obviously the player is struggling with the control pad in the first video at least. Being a console gamer, I can easily use a game pad, but anyhow, would have liked the PC version so I can run 1600 resolution VGA.

If you want to play this game, you'll have to pick this up for the Xbox. I'm getting it. This game came out like a year ago for X-box. Hopefully I can find it for $15 or $20.

Here, the one just below the one on top is the best one. It shows you seem to turn into one of these creatures. It also shows a boss character that is probably the largest monster I've ever seen in a game, and the way the screen moves with your characters' view is so righteous in this game. He opens windows, doors, grabs hold of things - you can see your character's hand actually do it, instead of doors magically opening.

This one shows some good parts at the end. missing sound in some parts. The voices and atmosphere inside the buildings is really good.

Thats great news to hear. I guess if any country got it, it would be the UK, since it was developed in the UK.

I've checked many stores, they each say things like, "sold out", and many of them have different release dates scheduled. Many places allow you to pre-order it, but then they claim that there are no refunds. Sounded fishy to me. And you say it's been released there.

I'll check out play.com

We have a different region code or something? Will it work for USA?

Call of Cthulhu

Here's the story:
Jack Walters was a highly revered police detective before his encounter with the Mythos changed his life. After his first encounter with the Mythos he was diagnosed with severe amnesia and schizophrenia and was committed to an asylum. Several years later his faculties returned and he was discharged. Fuelled by a burning desire to discover more about the dark secrets of the universe and the mysteries of his own past, he set himself up as a private detective in which he only took cases with a Mythos connection. Desperate for answers he takes a new case involving stories of strange creatures , unholy rituals, unexplained prosperity, and disappearances of several people from a town called Innsmouth.
