i bought episode one retail DVD about a week ago. When i try to install it steam tries to update and cannot connect. It says i am not connected to the internet, but i AM and it works fine other than steam not being able to connect. I have steam HL2 installed already. This happens every day when i try 2-3 times. Is there anyway i can just install the game? I tried running the setup.exe from the DVD but it still tries to update steam unsucessfully. How can i do this, and if i cant' is there a way to get my money back? The store won't take it back and steam's support is glitcy too. Am i out $20 or is there a way to get a refund or install the game? Thanks.

Would the store do an exchange for another copy....... It may be something to do with the actual game that prevents steam from updating. And so you can't download it from steam either to get it working BECAUSE it keeps being glitchy and won't let you on successfully, am I right or do you mean something else.?

yes, it just won't connect. Nothing to do with the game itself. But the thing is coded to connect to steam and update it before i'll allow you to install the game. So no steam update, no game. And i looked at all the files on the DVD in hopes of finding one that would let me install w/o updating steam, but no luck. And no, the store won't take it back at all. And it's not the DVD or the game thats the problem. Even w/o the DVD if i just try and update steam it acts like i'm not connected.

Well looks like your conned I suggest you get on the phone with support for Valve to get it all sorted out and to see why your Steam connection isn't functioning properly. The number is. This is the support for half life 2 anyway, I'm not sure if it covers aftermath but its worth a try I suppose isn't it. As a last resort.

the lines are closed now but you should be able to get on the phone with them between 7am and 9pm. Hope that helps I doubt anyone can solve this as it seems the problem is either with your PC or something that steam needs to sort out itself by the nature of the problem. I'm not too sure about this though.
