Cannot install Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition

Hello, new to the forums, I'm trying to install HL2 CE version; it installs Steam ok, but when it finishes installing it and launches the HL2 windows installer, it doesn't do anything when I hit "next" in the first window. So I get stuck in the first install window that says "blah blah welcome to the Half Life 2 installation wizard blah blah, click next or cancel". Now what happens is that none of the buttons does anything for me, they don't work either Cancel or Next, I've just tested it on my dad's rather old laptop and it installs ok (it won't run properly cause it's old, but it works), but I can't on my system, any idea what to do?

I'm running on WinXp, and I know my system specs are good, cause I have played HL2 in this system before, but this version won't even install.

Anyone, help?

You probably have a faulty Installshield (The software used to install some programs) installation.
Could you check again if a screen pops up saying "Installshield" or do you see "Installshield" anywhere in the installation window? There's also "WISE Installation" software, which is a tad more advanced than Installshield.
If HL2 uses Installshield to install: http://consumer.installshield.com/default.asp
I can't find a troubleshooting guide for WISE, I'm afraid :|

It's a Windows Installer, and it doesn't sound as it's faulty, as it works right on other computers, apparently

Put your CD key into steam, and then just download it through steam.

It's fixed, I downloaded the latest Windows Installer from Microsoft (1.3), thanks anyway
