cant get down the lift

hi i was playing hl2 for the first time.

i stept out the boot i got and went into a building i got scanned and then some ladie took me to the lift when she stops talking and the lift came up the doors open. i get in but she doesn't do anything. i cant click on the up or down buttons what to do now??

I guess it's the bit where Alyx rescues you from the Combine and takes you up the lift? She presses it for you, so you should go back to the last save point and see if that fixes it. It's a bug.

To fix this problem I recommend you go out and buy a copy of Half-Life 2.
