Cant get mods to work

BAttle grounds 2 works well, but when I try to play the dystopia demo and antlion troopers dues it just says HL 2 has encountered an error and needs to close....help appriciated

rightclick the mod name in the steam window and put a shortcut on ur desktop. right click the shortcut, click properties and after "Target:" and after -game, delete "program files" and put in progra~1

the game wont open because of the space in "program files"
