Cant get through portal?

So I'm playing portal, installed it and everything, but when I get to try and walk through the very first portal it shuts down on me. I can throw items through the portal but I can't seem to get through it myself >> I can even see them appear on the other side when I look to my right... I tried lowering all the detail levels but nothing really seems to be working... any help here? If not then any directions you could give me as to where I might actually get help >> thanks for the time,

And just now it shut down as soon as the first portal opened... any ideas? I also tried setting the portal texture thingy to 0 >> Didnt work

Nope still didnt work after I reinstalled it... Did the same thing

Do you have the latest video and audio drivers installed? 99% of problems in my experiance come down to that in the end.

What are your specs? And can we see a screenshot of this?

If I showed you even a video of it it would only show me running towards the portal/looking at the portal then the screen going black and the game quitting

It works on my laptop for some reason but not on the desktop... I'd rather play it on my desktop though... its much faster...

hmmm. Doesn't seen to be anything that woulsed beak the game. Similar thing happened to me a long time ago w/ GTA:VC. As soon as I got in a car the game crashed. The only option was to un/re install windows.


EDIT: ooh...ooh internal graphics.... that my be your problem, although I am playing it on an old 128MB ATi but I am getting a new onte tommorow. You have 224MB. Oh well, Sorry

is this on the first level? because the portal is meant to appear then reapear somewhere else

A mate had problems with Portal randomly crashing, it turned out to be his power supply wasn't giving his video card enough juice (serious!). He got a bigger power supply and things were OK, including Windoze finding devices not previously discovered.
