Can't install HL2 - CD just keeps reading

I have a Toshiba M45-S269 laptop which meets the specs for HL2. I've installed HL2 on my desktop without problem.

When I attempt to install it on the Toshiba laptop, the program will progress to the point where it is decompressing the files on the first CD - and will remain there forever! No error message, no "Not Responding" when I close it.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Does your laptop have a DVD drive?

Unless there is a CD version I don't know about, all Ep1 disks are DVDs, and won't read in a CD drive...

I'm trying to load HL2 - not the Ep1, I was under the impression that I had to have HL2 loaded in order to install Ep1 - is that not the case? If I don't need HL2, then I'll just download Ep1 and install it!

The Toshiba has a DVD drive that reads CD's - but it's a bit touchy. Has something to do wih a DVD-RAM program that came preinstalled.
