probably already been discussed in the past, so sorry

assuming hl2 ships on CD's, how many do you think there will be for the full installation (SP/MP), and how much HD will be needed
im thinking 4-5 cd's, 3gb+

Considering there has been DVD versions only in England the past months (FarCry,UT2004), I'm guessing Half-Life2 will come out on DVD only in the UK

it wont be dvd, because it doesnt appeal to buyers who dont own a dvd drive.

A DVD drive only costs £30. Thats £10 more than a CD drive. And besides, whats the point in buying a decent graphics card and sound card when you could upgrade your whole computer £30 extra

Silliest thing I've read all day...thanks Kotic

Heh, then why has FarCry and UT2004s dvd edition sold so well?

DVD is standard already. I didn't saw a PC sold with a CD only driver for a long time^^

And DEATH eVADER, you meant EU, didn't you?

i imagine hl2 will be available in cd and dvd :)

:dozey: I am guessing Half-Life 2 will be 4-5 gigs big.

I didn't know it was the whole of the EU, thank you for the heads-up

i think it will be 4-6cds, or 1 dvd. i expect the install to be around 4-6gb (with any mods that might come with it aswell (ala cs: source)). It's gonna be big chaps :)

I am sorry, but am I the only person who sees just how said this thread is... HOW MANY CDS? Wow, we really need it to be released.

Maybe there will be options about how much you actually want to store on your hard drive. For example, you could copy all game files to your HD, taking up several gigabytes. Or, you could opt to download some fies from steam when they are needed, saving HD space but slowing down loading times.

There will be a dvd edition (the interviews say so)

My guess it that it will be 2-3 cds just because the original game was super compressed for its time. Most games that were half the lenght of half life were being shipped on at least 2 cd's and sometimes 3-4. Somehow hl got it onto 1 and after you installed everything in the blueshift game it didn't even require the cd.

once it installs it will probably be 2 gb

Not necessarily, Seirra might have a special edition with cd's for the people who love half-life but don't have a dvd-rom

(that would be my guess anyway)

i still can't believe people don't have dvd-roms. It's the price of a single game now. Hopefully in the near future i'll be getting a dvdr.

Far Cry was 5gigs big, HL2 should really be 6 gigs big.

If there's no reason to buy it, why would I buy one? Movies? I don't watch movies on a 17". Games? What games? Far Cry was cd only here, and with UT2004 it was only the SE that was on DVD, which came in some ugly metal case...
DVD in your PC has been a complete waste of money until now, I'll buy one when it's necessary (probably for HL2)

I got me a msi dvd burner for £100 and it lets me burn cd's at double their capacity.

So on top of being able to burn dvd's I can now easily burn 1.4gig on to a 700mb cd as well (although it will only be read by another dvd drive with hd-burn technology).

Well worth the money spent.

My HD is less than 6gb :-/

Hopefully they will release the game on both CD and DVD (altough I will get it trough Steam) but I guess I need to buy a DVD-player (I chose a CD-burner instead of a DVD-player then I bought my new computer). Anyways if the Special Ed comes out on a DVD I WILL get a DVD player.
As for the size, I guess around 4 gigs, and all will be installed! No time for loading when I'm playing! =)
