cfg files instaed of folders ?

Hi there I want to add the high res pack to my hl2 games , but it stats that I should move the files into the materials folder, but alas I dont have this instead I have a folder full of gcf files , please help and what do i do ?

You're looking in the wrong area if you see gcfs (they're also not config files). You should be in "C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/<user name>/<game>/<game>/materials/". Yes there is a game folder inside a game folder. Folders past your user name will get created when you start the game. However, there may not be a materials folder. If not, you'll need to create one.
