Cheating. bah

I'm 65. New to the game and having a ball. Question: Can people cheat at this fun game. Example: I'm 4 ft behind a still opponent, I do a head shot with 357. He turns around, looks at me so I 357 him again in the face. He then proceeds to kill me with a crow bar!! What the heck. If people can and do cheat, I'l have to find another game to play.
Looking forward to hearing members opinions on this important topic.

I'm a regular player here and what you're seeing is nothing short of very experienced players. Chances are, you'll find us a few of us sprinkled about the stock-based maps in a few select servers. It's been a very long time since I've run across someone cheating in this game. There's simply no real demand for it. I believe they're in it for the bigger games now(TF2 and of course CSS). Also remember that VAC does a very good job at keeping cheaters out of the scene. By your instance of a .357 magnum headshot, it is possible to do that and for him not to die. Headshots with the magnum are 225, so it's completely possible if he was suited up heavily on armor. On the other hand, you may have well seen blood splattered on the face of your opponent, but with the iffy hit registration that this game is plagued with, it may not have even registered.

As a beginner you'll struggle with the ranks and sometimes be boggled by how fast some players may be and how well certain players can rack up headshots like it was cake. As with any game it takes practice, and with the steep learning curve that I believe this game has, you'll need lots of it. Just keep at it and keep at it strong. I didn't imply anything like that so your post is meaningless. You said VAC does a very good job when it doesn't. Public cheats (read: not private paid cheats) have gone unbanned for months to even a whole year in some cases. These cheats are not unknown they are regularly reported to Valve. I can understand delay banning for a few weeks but beyond that it just becomes silly. Valve clearly are not in the business of keeping their games clean. They are in the business of making as many people as possible buy new copies after being busted months after having used a cheat.
