Let me start this out by saying a huge "Thank You!" for delivering an excellent product at an excellent price in HL2:EP1.
I was one of the folks who pre-loaded EP1 days in advance and then simply waited for the timer to hit 00:00:00. During my first run through the game, I had a blast and loved how old, new, and future enemies were introduced and used. However, a problem arose when trying to use the commentary track.
As I have read on several HL2 fan boards, many of us want to simply go through the game unhindered and pay attention only to the commentary nodes. This is similar to how a commentary track on a DVD works -- the primary audio is muted to such a volume that you cannot really pay attention to the original action, only the commentary. DVD's have one major advantage in using this method, however -- interactivity (or, more precisely, the lack thereof). I often found myself being distracted from the commentary nodes because I was being attacked by an onslaught of enemies that was either making Gordon grunt so loud that I couldn't hear the commentary or doing so much damage to Alyx that I was worried about her dying. It could be argued that I should clear a room first and then pay attention to the commentary nodes, but this was impossible in scenes such as the subterranean elevator scene where the zombies keep regenerating until you finally exit via the elevator.
In order to solve this issue (or so I thought), I decided to use the "notarget" cheat code in order to make enemies ignore me; allowing me to progress through the game at my own pace and simply enjoy the commentary. The problem with this method is that when "notarget" disables the enemy AI, it also disables Alyx's AI (that is, it disables *all* NPC AI in the game). Thus, I was unable to progress through the game because suddenly Alyx would not respond to scripted events or even follow Gordon as I progressed through levels and scenes.
My suggestion for the future is to separate the controls for Enemy and Friendly AI. That is, make "notarget" control exclusively enemy AI and have a different code that can be used to toggle Friendly AI. Doing this would allow the player to disable his presence to the enemy and progress through the game in a more 'observor' type mode (and keep any Friendly AI from suddenly acting erratically) while enjoying the commentary at a leisurely and stress-free pace.
Thanks for a wonderful and exciting ride! You guys always deliver quality and your commitment to your community is some of the best in the industry, bar none. Keep up the excellent work!

Just like you have to in HL2 to cheat.Victor2 said:PS: the same cheats for HL2 work on Ep1, but you have to type "sv_cheats 1" first.
So if you knew how to cheat in HL2, how come you didn't in EP1? It's the same thing.CABBIE said:anybody know cheats the old cheats for half-life2 dont seem to work
