My stance is simple, he was killed as a scape goat. This happens in the chinese government at all levels all the time. If you actually believe his trial was fair and the chinese state owned news service isn't stretching the facts I have a bridge to sell you.

Laughing at someone's death when they were clearly killed unjustly to help a government make money is beyond sickening.
 
I think their justification was because they believed his corruption led to deaths from untested nutritional information.

I guess I can understand that... kind of like knowingly poisoning huge batches of food?

Which brings me to another point, if they amputated peoples feet who jaywalked, how much would jaywalking decrease by? How many lives would that save EVERY YEAR?
 
You guys never know how SERIOUS Zheng, the executed guy, did. He was the head of the State Food and Drug institution. He controlled all the food and medicine, therefore the public health. With his malpractice, thirty-five people were directly killed. Over hundreds thousand of patients and civilians were serious affected. You can compare: does a terrorist carrying a machine-gun, running into a school and slaughtering 35 students deserve death? Sure, he does. The case we have here in China is even MUCH MORE serious then that. Consider when you go to a pharmacy in a Government Hospital and buy a bottle of aspirin, instead you bought a bottle of pesticide. You take it unknowingly and resulted in irreversible multi-organ failure. Do you deserve it? Or Zheng deserve his capital punishment? The food and medicine quality is so bad in China. Patient received HIV when they have blood transfer. People get blinded as they drank wine containing methanol. Babies sustained permanent brain damage because the milk they intake is of zero energy content. I guess those babies now are of severe mental retardation and have to sit and drool at the rest of their life.

At the very time being I hear another news that in a restaurant selling BBQ pork buns, the buns contain no BBQ pork. Rather, they are buns contain diced paper card soaked in caustic soda. There were merchants selling mooncakes which had been leftover since the year before last year. We can't eat safely in Mainland China. We refuse to stay in a China's hospital. IT IS VERY HORRIBLE.

Of all course, most of you are living in Europe or the USA and don't give a shit on how much Zheng did in China. You don't care, you don't know. You are like kindergarten students trying to cry "hey forgive him. He will do better next time", with western news network under-exaggerates the seriousness of the case. I, now, tell you. HE DESERVES DEATH.

What do you mean by imprisonment? Giving him free meal and security at the rest of his life? Imprisonment is adequate for punishing mindless drunk drivers and drug traders, but it is certainly not enough for such a man butcher. We just can't give him food and drink, as well as constant medical check for free, right? Under the international protocol of human rights, I am sure imprisonment does not bring this guy enough suffer. Imprisonment is only a waste of social resources.

Anyway, this guy was a bad man, to be sure, I say that he did deserve punishment, but maybe not death. Like public flogging or forced labor camps.

Torture is NOT a legitimate punishment. It degrades the state to the same level as the criminal scum it punishes.

Now, for interrogation, I think torture is a dandy tool.

The prison system can do that too. In some jails here the prisoners learn to make handicrafts. They make saleable stuff, and they learn a vocation (not a high paying one, but still).
 
Execution is still needed for less serious crime. It cost the criminal money for each bullet used during the execution. I think it is $8 per round. The more money the criminal paid, quicker death he can get. It is quite an earning for the Government.

Zheng had appealed against his sentence, arguing that it was "too severe" and saying he had confessed his crimes and co-operated with police.

If thats true he doesn't deserve death. Period, no matter what he has done. The Death Penality is for those for whom there is no hope, there was clearly hope for him to be rehabilitated.

I am not crazy. Zheng threatened the all the people in China. He even threatened the integrity of China by disrupting the whole network of food and medicine. No one should do that out of greed for money. He should be killed, so as to bring justice. Bring the sense of justice unto those whose friend or family died in the episode.

The difference is, most of my reletives aren't responsible for the the deaths of several innocent people. I reject the death penalty of course, so I do in no way support what the Chinese government did. It's just that I won't mourn him very much since he himself was a murderer. There people who have been imprisoned and executed by the Chinese state who had done far less than this guy.

I'm sure that this will reassure Texans that it's safe to buy Made in China....

As reprehensible as the Death Penalty is, I have little sympathy for him assuming he has done what he was convicted of doing.

I do feel that the Saddam Hussein comparison is apt - noone should receive the death penalty, whatever the reason.
 
Life in Prison is much worse than Death Penalty imho, if waaaay more expensive.

Anyway, this way China gets to organ harvest.
 
I just saw a report on TV where Chinese hamburger meat was substituted for cardboard and the buns contained waste. :bonce:
