Insane. 1 US Dollar per Chinese Person. I mean, just for defacing the Chinese, that kind of sum? Obviously, this won't get through.

The suit asks for $1.3 billion dollars -- $1 per person in China -- for "violat[ing]the dignity and reputation of the Chinese people." Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu called the suit "spontaneous action" on the part of the Chinese people.

this could draw them unwanted attention from the broadcasting standards board or whatever it is that governs radio and tv licenses specifically for violanting broadcasting licensing agreements ..if found guilty they'd pay a fine or fire Jack Cafferty ..however I dont think those comments violate decency rules

Please note that when the article and thread title says "China" they mean about 14 lawyers in Beijing. I wish we could all stop anthropomorphizing countries. They are run by people with names.

i still think people need to chill out about this crap, I'm really getting fed up with all these b.s. lawsuits being brought up.

It's almost like some people are living day to day, just waiting for somebody to mess up somewhere so they can get 250 million dollars in some law suit because wal-mart moped the floors and didn't put a sign up and then they slipped and fell. OMG WET GROUND!!! That's impassable! Holy shit nobody who's ever come across WET GROUND before has ever lived to tell about it! Everybody stay back and be cool! If we wait a few minutes maybe this WET GROUND will just go away and everybody will be able to pass!

edit: breath....breath....god, i just get so infuriated thinking about crap like this...I can't even handle it. I wish people who were accused of frivolous lawsuits or insurance fraud would be put on death row.

Have you guys actually watched any of the recent American media offensive on China? It is extremely biased reporting, although I think that China complaining about it isn't going to help them any.

yes I read the article, however it's not the same incident ..the 14 lawyers and this lawsuit for 1.3 billion are two different cases:


The lawyers sought the restoration of the Chinese people's reputation through publications and in the media and asked for 100 yuan ($14.31) in damages, it said.

I don't think any of you realize how much money America actually makes,

In 2006 the United States GDP (Gross Domestic Product) was over 13.4 TRILLION dollars.

So 1.3 billion is chump change to us.

The article itself said that the 2 people had sued CNN, then again, I wouldn't be surprised if a whole bunch of Chinese begin to support their attempt to sue. After all, the ties between the nations are shaky as hell now.

I'm saying it's usually Americans with these ridiculous lawsuits... But now it's Chinese people, suing over a type of matter that Americans face all the time...
 
The lawsuit is justified IMO (although 1.3 billion is an absurd sum). The anchor insulted every Chinese export, and the leadership of the country.

Also, CNN blows.

Cafferty said the United States imported Chinese-made "junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food" and added: "They're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years".
