but likely will never see ported to the source engine or any future engine for that matter.

Rocket Crowbar-Fun and Simple. A classic.

Action Half-Life,The Opera,The Specialists-The Specialists has one of the biggest custom content oriented communities that i have ever seen. Why we haven't seen a source version of either one these mods yet, is beyond me. There is 'Distraction' but that mod is going nowhere.

Science and Industry-By far one of the most original mods that i have ever played. They could have taken advantage of TF2's success and placed the mod in that universe. It's meant to be. Somehow,it died instead. Very sad and discouraging imo.

Sven Co-op 2-Whatever happened to that anyway? No offense, but even the source engine is dated compared to today standards. So,why bother with another HL version?

Vampire Slayer-Another great fun and innovative mod that i have enjoyed for many years. Very atmospheric.

Desert Crisis-Just the sheer volume of customability alone make it classic.

Battle of the Millennium-Superheroes from Batman to Spiderman battling each other around cityscapes. What more can you ask for? Didn't have much of a fan base and was a somewhat buggy but it holds a special place in my heart.

to name a few more...Train Hunters,Holy Wars,Scientist Hunt,Swarm,Morbid Inclination,Waste Half Life,Varoom Mod and few others which i can't think of atm.

I Am just glad that the developers of PVK and Firearms are still around and kicking.
I just wish more developers were that passionate about their original projects.

Surprise mod was AWESOME.
I used to host a server for it and it'd always have players, so fun.
It had like 100 weapons all with different firing modes and uses.

Battle of the Millenium was great too, swinging around as Spiderman was fun.

Rival Species was great, it was WH40k mod.

The Wastes, a Fallout mod... was fantastic.

Rocket Crowbar, wish we'd got a proper HL2 version.

Snow Wars, awesome snowball mod.

God, the mods for HL1 are countless really and I played every one that I could find.

Surprise mod had gravity gun. :D

S&I was classic

I bet it's pretty easy to guess the other mod I loved

also FLF was great

I've played The Specialists significantly more than any other non-CS or DOD HL mod, so I'd say that first and foremost, although the more recent versions aren't quite as good (I preferred everyone having the superjump instead of it being a powerup, and where o where has my mac10 gone?).

There's still nothing as awesome as some of the really insane stunt kills in that game; diving into a room with double pistols blazing in slow motion, hitting the ground and rolling to your feet, running up the nearest wall and backflipping off over your opponents head, still shooting, and then landing behind him and kung-fuing his weapon out of his hand, which you then pick up and shoot him in the face with. Epic.

I liked Wanted! but I'm not sure if it's got a source version or not (I'm guessing not).

That was good, I played with robots and it was cool. Should play it again :)

Outlaws was much better imo. Fistful of Frags is a nice mod but a bit slow paced for my taste.

"Where are you, Marshall?"

The specialists
Front Line Force

were great mods

When you say Outlaws, you're talking about that old FPS from a couple years post-Doom/Wolf3d? That shit was awesome, I had completely forgotten about it. The HL mod Wanted! didn't really compare to be honest.

Really? I know that their alpha release fell flat, but it seemed like the gameplay code was fairly intact. It's just that the mod badly needs a full art team to make the entire experience tolerable. Recruiting with a stable code base is better than recruiting with nothing to show right?

Did you even check the site before posting that? :dozey:

Yes. I even read the forums. Strange, isn't it? They released an alpha to "stir up interest". Well, nobody seems to be interested. The mod has been in development for years yet they are going nowhere. How is that not dead? Wake me up once they release a beta.

I highly doubt they're actually dead though, they're probably working behind the scenes and just don't feel like posting anything.

How is releasing an update just over two months ago considered dead these days? Christ, by your definition, pretty much everything short of the Steamworks mods and Portal: Prelude must be dead, right?

And I didn't say the mod was finished. Just replying to you saying it was sad we'd never see an S&I on the Source engine. Well, here it is. It's still a work-in-progress, but, like was said earlier, the basic codebase is there and (for the most part) working. Now they're actively recruiting artists & level designers in order to flesh it out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that show a lot more life than most of the mods that get posted about (OMG THEY HAVE SOME HOT RENDERS!!! SWEET THIS MOD IS GONNA BE AWEEEEEEESOME!!!)? 'Specially considering you can actually play it.

If you're judging the mod as a whole based on the fact its alpha was a bit rough and didn't get much attention, I'm guessing you weren't around for the earliest alphas of the original S&I or the CS ones?

Releasing an Alpha is just one of the signs of demise when it comes to mods. I've seen it many times before and S&I 2 seems to be following the trend. One of the devs even stated on the forums that he'd happily hand over the mods code if anybody wants to continue to work on the it.
It's just slowly limping towards its death. I'd like to be proven wrong, because i enjoyed the HL version immensely but that remains to be seen.

Frontline Force
Action Half-Life
The Wastes
Rocket Crowbar
Scientist Slaughterhouse
The Trenches
Tour of Duty
Sven Coop
Science & Industry
Desert Crisis
Global Warfare
They Hunger
USS Darkstar
Firearms
...jeepathon2k

I remember the days where it seemed I was downloading a new mod every week. Seems like those days are gone for good. :(

Want Sven Co-Op source.

At least NS2 is still being made though. My favourite HL mod by far.

I miss the Natural Selection experience. NS was the most intelligently made mod of them all.

So, go play it.
It's faaaar from dead.

Also, the Science & Industry mod's website is gone. :p

I tried out The Ship (Source) today, and it was pretty good compared to one on GoldSrc. I admit it takes some time to learn gameplay elements, but it shouldn't stop people playing it. It also have amazing graphics.

Todesanght (?)

There was also They Hunger; although you can play it on steam there was nothing like its first playthrough. I am waiting patiently for They Hunger: Lost Souls

Also, the Science & Industry mod's website is gone. :p

I really liked this mod, but it was hard to find a full server. It feels like one of those games that is so right for the Source Engine (Its shares the same artistic feel as TF2), but apparently the source project is dead.

Also scientist hunt
