Okay, I unfortunately don't have a screenshot at this time (earliest will be on monday), but when your in the last legs of "follow Freeman", your in that destroyed building, fighting two striders. on the road next to the destroyed building there should be two or three shops.

One of the shops is aptly named 'Cafe Baltic'

This could mean that its one of the countries on the Baltic Sea. But guessing the Russian Style writing on some buildings, its possible that its one of the countires on the eastern side of the Sea.

Just before you get the gauss gun for the mud skipper, you are shown a map of the surrounding area, again the Sea is on the left hand side of the country.

Another thing. It is very possible it is North Russia...Have you seen the advertisements in the buildings? They are russian font, and it gets VERY windy in City 17...But at the trainstation, when you look at the charts, it says ND, and SD. Anyone know of a city with the initials ND and SD in Russia? Perhaps its a city close to City 17..

Speaking of trainstation, can anyone make sense of what the crazy guy is talking about?

They're always leaving. They get on but they never arrive.

I guess it referes to the fact that most passengers are taken out of the train for some "questioning" ... if you talk to the woman who stands after the train she tells you that she's waiting for her husband who was ordered out of the train. (I mean the woman who asks "Are you the only ones on that train?")

That's not the guass gun, the guass gun (or tau cannon) was on the buggy. The gun on the airboat was just a hunter chopper gun.

I think he's talking about people who are ushered into the Nova Prospekt trains.

City 17 is in poland. And i can prove it. I must find someone with digital camera and take some picters from my city. Zombies looks like my grandparents and gordon looks like my math teacher. In my basement i have many Xen fauna, like Headcrabs and AntLions and FaceHugger's. And we have prisons looking exactly like that1 in HL2. Propably its Warsaw i think...

The storywriter in Valve is Romanian, if I am not wrong. City 17 is in Central Europe and was inspired by the Soviet era. The concrete-panel buildings are ugly, and you can find such buldings in Romania, Moscow, every country of the former Soviet Union, and even farfar Eastern Russia in Kuril Islands, near Japan.

Gordon is fighting a totalitarian system, and the communistic Soviet union with Eastern European countries of past gives the best example as how a totalitarian system feels from outside.

You are all lucky that you didnt live in those countries during that era. Thank you democracy :thumbs: .

The location you're talking about iw probably a tourist area. Notice the english writing on signs and the types of buildings;a Baltic Cafe, a hotel, a cyber cafe.

Thats not a gauss gun thats the combine Copper chain gun. The gauss gun is on the buggy.
