All these rumours going around half life 2 beta, compiled code blah blah is really starting to anoy me. Im sorry but i stopped careing about this leak a while ago. I dont see why anyone wants to play a crappy map with no objects etc just to feel what its like to jump around. I dont want to ruin the total feeling when the game comes out propaly by playing any made beta which i wouldent go near anyway. I obviously feel bad for valve about this leak etc but im not gonna make it worse by spreading rumours and screenshots about this "beta".:flame:

Agreed its infected all forums and its really dull, can we just leave the hackers alone to impress themselves. I want some real discussion.

LOL.. good point. These people obvioulsy dont have families or gf's or any other serious things in life to use their time on. So hence they spend their time doing inane things like compliing code that has no maps textures , models.....lol.

if you want decent discussion get over to ot chat, i'll start another appreciation thread :D

solutions:

1. release beta
2. don't release beta, shut up about it
3. release hl2.

AMEN TO THAT!!!!

Yep I'm starting to put a end to all the source code discussions on the forum.

We as the community are meant to be helping Valve. But in the past few days it seems as though some people on this forum know more about the source than Valve do themselves. That is not a good thing. Especially when people aren't meant to even have it because it's illegal...

Aah finally... i couldn't agree more... this must be stopped or maybe you can make a sticky about this :( i know it wont help much but... ooh well

And except all that we are all being distract from our main focus " WHEN THE (facking) GAME WILL BE RELEASED " noone has a word for it...

Yeah it's annoying but have you actually seen any fo these supposed screenshots? - It's funny to see how close people can come to making a "perfect fake" - I find it easy to just ignore them, IF there was a beta it would be all over by now that's for sure!

In reality the answer may be never.

Allegedly Valve is facing at least one potential lawsuit, for the leak of the Havok engine. (Rumors say six but I can't imagine that is true.) Havok might just pull the license for the product because it was leak forcing them to remove the Havok code, who knows.

The true future profit of the business 'Steam' can be heavily compromised we just aren't sure at this point.

The bottom line is that STEAM is involved in a quiet time basically for two reasons one forced quiet because of the Status they are operating in right now, the second is because they are in the middle of a criminal investigation as well has having the possible liability of a few civil complaints.

Which means we ain't going to here anything official unless a they are 100% sure and the lawyers and Feds say its ok to release, which means we are not hearing anything anytime soon.

P.S. I personally think the rumor of someone talking to insiders at Valve is complete bullshit, everyone working their is 1) A Suspect as an accomplice in the crime 2)Has signed and NDA which will get them terminated if they violate the NDA. Someone would have to be a real moron to leak additional information under those circumstances.

One theory that I like the least is posted over at www.gonegold.com which speculates a professional Eastern European hacking ring hacked Vavle in an attempt to sell bootleg copies.

Thanks, Kamakiri. I totally agree. While of course the leak is really big news, and has deeply saddened me... not because it will lessen my experience of the game, but because I feel badly for the people and Valve and the company.

But the discussion of the leak has unfortunately demonstrated that many of our own HL2.net community members, while expressing sympathy to Valve, make things worse for Valve and themselves by downloading the source code and whatever compiles are out there. Frankly, I'm disappointed in us collectively.

Enough of the source code discussions, let's get back to business.

No, stryyder, you're wrong. The Feds will have nothing to say about its release, lol :) Havok will not sue valve, don't you know anything about marketing? Huge numbers of people would turn against Havok. Plus, the Valve Havok code is heavily modified by VALVE. You guys need to do your homework before posting wild speculations.

Hey everybody! Let's stop talking about the leak and start a new thread about it... *looks like an idiot and feels confused*

yep stop talking about the source and start posting some tutorials on how to use it please.

Hahahaha, even funnier....ass, fart, ass!

Er, how about, NO! hehe...

I just find it sad the way so many people seem to want attention by either, faking videos, pictures, compiled source or actually playing the game. Or whats worse people are starting to pretend they know all about the source code and know how to use it and all they wanna do it bang on about a beta release.

So they can get it and |3uíl|) $0|\/|3 1337 h4x0r3d ch34t$ t0 pl4'/ i|\| CS 4Nd kí|| |\/|'/ ()\/\/|\| t3/\M |\/|8s 4nD pWn uR $er\/3r!!!!!!!!1111111oneoneone2three456!!!!!!!11 (that means in english: Build some leet hacks cheats to play in CS and kill my own team mates and own your server)

Or whats better is some people come on these forums and verbabally bash us who are majorly concerned with the fact the source has been leaked or bash valve saying its there fault, and saying they wont buy the game because of it? Yet you'll come onto this Half Life 2 site/forums just to say that? SAD!!!! V. SAD!!!

You are right I said the Feds will restrict or urge the restriction of any communication that discuss the left or crime we are talking about. Sorry if I left my point unclear

Unless you have any intimate knowledge of what the developers of Havok are now thinking your post is no more based on the 'facts' then mine.

1)Fact Havok IP is now free for everyone to see

2)Havok's ability to successfully sell future liceneses has been compromised

3)Vavle has fat pockets (or will if they manage to sucessfully release)

4)Havok's customers are not gamers they are developers so they can give a shit what we think.

5)They have nothing to loose but everything to gain especially since if they are smart they will sue Microsoft as well. They have a valid claim as they were damaged by the theft/leak of the source code and most states have shared liability which means that even if they find Valve 2% liable they can assess damages accordingly.

I still find it annoying that people out there are bashing those who take it apon them selves to play about with the source code for the reason of creating content, not cheats.

As I’ve said before these are exactly the same type of people who made all the mods for hl1, it's these people who contributed to hl1 longevity and it's successes.

Before you post another stupid I can't believe people are try to get this to work with crappy maps, textures, etc think if it wasn't for people like this there probably wouldn’t be a half life 2 as everyone who played half life would have got fed up of it with out the mods and valve would only have made one quarter of the money they did.

Seriously, all this code leaks and rumors are killing the anticipation for the game; more and more of the gameplay is being spoiled.

Unfortunately even if people are using the source code with 'good' intentions most of their work will be fruitless because you will see Valve make changes on how the program runs, its inevetible.

The Source code leak with delay the SDK unfortunately so this is actually a big set back for the mod community.

I seriously doubt that they would change the part of code that the moders are interested, i.e. map properties, file formats, scripting, etc.
It would be an immense amount of work to change that as all the artwork they produced to date would rely on the existing formats it would be easier just to port the game over to a different engine than to change the basic structures.

I agree though that some stuff is pretty much guaranteed to change like authentication possibly netcode, etc.

I honestly can't see the parts of the code that people are using as a glorified SDK changing.

I personally think this is a very bad idea. This is what is going on with hl2 right now, you cant make ppl stop talking about the source/beta. Its the biggest and well known hack on a game company. To punish ppl for talking about it isnt going to make the problem go away.
