Combine Assasin?

I keep on seeing pictures of combine assasins but i dont remember seeing any in the game. Are they just from the teaser or were they an actual enemy?
 
Their code still exists in the SDK, though, so anybody with some coding skill and some modelling skill could probably put her back in the game.

I could attempt the code, although I'm not the greatest lol. I probably couldn't do it since I'm a noob at that kind of stuff.
 
Although their "Assasin" roll was removed, most of their design has been used in the Combine Elite.
 
Originally, there main in highlight in the game was a skyscraper that Gordon had to work his way down after he and Alyx's chopper crashed into it.
 
What? Were the assassins supposed to be training in the building or something? That sequence would have been hard.
 
Well, we can only hope that the assassins will show up in an expansion ... perhaps we might see Alyx in some girl-on-girl ass-kicking? :naughty:

Not too sure, the tower was similar to a museum, it had alien carcasse's in glass containers i believe.

The assasins would jump off the walls of the hallways, i think that was the plan.
 
Dude why wouldn't they make that!! I hate hearing all the crap that they took out, it always seems better than what was actually in the game!! Alyx and Gordon's helicopter crashing into a skyscraper?? That would have been cool as hell!
 
I, for one, am glad they didn't include assassins in HL2. Hated them so mucn in HL1

Amen. I played through it on hard and they owned me so much. :o
 
Lets face it, they removed an absolute shit-load of stuff. Almost all of it sounded excellent. But I try not to think about it, it makes me sad/mad.

Why are you sad? I don't understand this urge to be sad and annoyed and pissed at vavle because they removed some content? They don't remove it because they are bieng mean. They remove because it didn't work and was no fun to play. Get over it.

Nope, you're thinking of the "Alien Assassin", also known as the "Prowler". The Combine Assassin was very much similar in style to HL1's one.

I agree. I was personally disappointed by the removal of the Borealis considering all I'd heard about their efforts to recreate the place. Also by the removal of some of the traptown-style setpieces that we'd seen....but we have to acknowledge that Valve just didn't cut these things at random. For instance, think about a level in a skyscraper...not a great deal of floor area, floor after floor of near identical map, massive headache for Valve to try and think up inventive things to do with it...good thing they cut it IMO.

Thanks for the headsup, I remember what everyone's talking about now....glad they cut that one too B-) the "sexy but deadly woman soldier" idea gets a bit cheesy quick....
 
im sure if you ask some modders nicley could make it (not me though i probably couldnt mod to save my life)
would have been cool to see all these cut bits
 
Some stuff was just weird, cremators loooked like some final fantasy character.

What were the tunnels?
 
remeber the tunnel bink video? with the manhacks and the hydra? god damn it the hydra i forgot about that, one day we'll see her in action.

In raising the bar, they said they were going to include the gunship repair/making dock thing, theres a nice sketch of it, and you fight through that. Seriously that would have been so awesome to play through that, rather than just glimpse at it as you go through the citadel. Theres no point crying over split milk though. We got a good load of stuff from the game.
 
i realy havee to get RtB

anyways, if canals was dropped it seemsed absolutley awesome but seems relativley unliked (i liked it though) The chapters that were dropped, while seeming cool, probably werent. Though they did have potential as far as the areas were concerened....

borealis was the big icebreaker ship.

That list is missing the ocean drain.
 
SOme of the ideas probably look good on papers but turned to shit when they implemented it into the game. I think that is the main reasons for all these cut-offs, but again, that happens a lot in many games, it's a normal thing. :D ......but I really do miss those sexy combine assassins, tho :P
 
I some pictures of Combine Assasins from somewhere ages ago. They look very similiar to elites but more versatile. I wish they weren't scrapped, would of added more variety to the gameplay. Killing soldiers can get a bit boring, they would of made it more interesting.

I think they where somewhat fun/cool (I've downloaded a beta map pack, you can compile and run the maps in retail HL2) pity there mostly textureless :)

Don't flame me, I just couldn't hold back my curiosity any longer ;).

Plus, Cremators were a really cool concept, Combine in trenchcoats with acid spraying guns. TRENCHCOATS!! ACID GUNS!!. :D
 
I want to know why Valve decided to cut the longer train intro. It seemed pretty cool, after read what was written in the Raising the Bar book.

I am wondering also, but i have a sneaky feeling that some beta testers ultimatley dozed off.


But like everything else, it sounds good on paper...but when it comes to the real deal it doesn't quite cut it.

Yeah, might be a similar deal to HL1. Personally I loved the train ride intro into Black Mesa, and felt that it sank me nicely into the atmos of the game. However at the same time I remember loads of people complaining that it was boring and too long and they wanted to skip it.

Maybe Valve was didn't want to leave even more ammo for nitpickers...but at the same time, leaving the backstory untold also leaves more room for personal interpretation. But it looks as if that may have backfired too, what with all the threads saying "Yeah, I just finished HL2, wasn't really paying attention, does someone mind telling me what was meant to be going on?"

They wanted players to jump into the action and experience everything first hand instead of spectating like they have since E3: 2003.

That would make them looked like dicks (aka detectives) ....:E
 
Nah the concept in RtB made them look like SS soldiers (Which was the point apparently) and as a result much cooler.

Although this was probably at the stage where the citizens had to wear gasmasks because the air was so bad.
 
Hey Those assiassin in Hl1 Sucked but they were Hot in thoses tight leather outfits

It's weird, but after coming out of the Ravenholm mine I remember standing over the body of one of the Overwatch and studying him closely. I can't pinpoint what it was, but something about his uniform made me think "hmm....Nazi SS?" and then only afterwards I read that part about the trenchcoats in RtB.

They still look like SS vaguely somehow.
