I have been looking at the teaser vids and have noticed that the weapon Gordon uses in the tunnel vid (the one that sets the Combine soldier on fire) is similar if not the same to the one that the Combine use in the barricade vid to signal the gun ship. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject.

Well, first, so you know, its name is 'iRifle'.

I don't think it's the same weapon, when the combine shoots up that signal he only uses one hand, the iRifle appears to use both hands.

Irifle...im sure is not allowed to be discussed as it is the stolen build material...
But to answer your question....it must be flare gun..cuz i remember in an interview they said the AI is amazing how they use the flare gun to call in the little combine helicopter type ship thingy majiger

The flare gun in the barricade video looks like a pistol (at least that's what he drops when he falls over the edge.) The weapon in the tunnels part looks like a grenade launcher, so I don't think they are the same.

Pauly, um, it's called a Gunship, not a LCHTSTM(Little Combine Helicopter Type Ship Thingy Majiger).:P

In all actuallity I think it is a gernade launcher and the flare is another fuction of its firing miodes.

Imo thats another gun then the flare gun.

Edit: Yay 2k posts of meaningless spam, ahw000t......

continue....

if the grenade gun(or iRifle)is equiped whit that ammo?

cause I heard that some weapons will hav diferents ammo tipes
and maybe that is the "fire" ammo
or.....
in the barricade video, maybe that combine use the flare gun used to alert a possision
and the gun in the tunels video is a flare gun used to combat

All possibilities guess we will know when the game comes out.

iRifle=incendiary rifle?

I don't believe that this is a grenade launcher, considering that the incendiary pellets it fires actually sets on fire upon contact with air and has been ejected from the gun. This gun has two features, it can be used to set things on fire, or signal comrades.

also considering that the game is a few years in the future.. a state of the art flare in that time could probably light someone on fire pretty bad.

the gun is probably meant for a flare/signal but it is probably effective yet non-practical at lighting people on fire. A fork is for eating... but it can also be used to stab someone. Start thinking outside the little linear box.

A gun can be used to shoot someone. But to conserve ammo, just chuck your weapon at your enemy. The weight should kill them, or at least knock them unconsious

Talk about one hellava throw. :rolling:

The flare that the combine soldier shoots is definately not a secondary function of the I-rifle. The flare he uses is from a flare pistol, you can clearly see it is a flare pistol in the barricade video. My guess is that the I-Rifle is a heavy version of the flare pistol used to light things on fire. The pistol flare that the combine guy shoots is like an I-rifle sidearm that is possibly used for the same purpose as the I-rifle. I guess both could be used as flares, or as a means of lighting enemies on fire. Oh, and the I-rifle is not from the stolen build, it is shown in the tunnels video.

I think he meant in reference to the name, as in "where the hell did you hear it was called the I-Rifle?".

One thing I did notice, is that in the Barricade Bink the guard's flare still has a Half-Life style circle of texture wrap, quite clear against the sky. I'd expect to see that in some amateurish OpenGL game, not the sequel to one of the most critically aclaimed games of all time :hmph:

Well, I'm pretty sure that some of the bink vids are from just after they feature locked the engine... we could have very well been watching an alpha version of the game in some of them.

ok, am i an idiot or have i completely missed this guy who shoots the flare in the barricade movie. i have the 600 MB one, not the bink. should i still be able to see him? when does he do it? ive watched it like 4 times after seeing people talk about this signal flare and i guess i always miss it.

The flare gun could be a weapon u cant get (like other games), its just there

We know that Valve has included weapons (such as the manipulator) which show off the awesome physics. Maybe the incendiary rifle is one which lets you play around with their cool fire tech. :smoking:

Imo, the Flair Gun and the "I-Rifle" are 2 totally separate weapons. Now as we all know in Half-Life 2 there are Antlions, and Antlion Gaurds, which could also be described as "bugs". Now we also know that the Combine and the "bugs" appear to be on different sides (watch Bugbait). I propose that the "I-Rifle" is a Combine-made "bug" killer. We all know what happens when a a bug is lit on fire. Anyone read the "Aliens" series of comics?

Or the "Aliens" series of movies...

Well... the "Aliens" movie, anyway.

Didnt you see the exhibition show where Jobs introduced the IRifle? It comes with a beltclip, can store 40 Gigs of tunes, and has built in FireWire!

yer i never took note of it until i watched it again , the dude who shoots the flare is the one who is up on the top platform that when he dies he falls to the ground

it shows him put his right arm up and shoot the flare , oooo so awesome :)

I hope the battery of the iRifle doesn't break after some time....

/me pokes the iPod...

Hmmmm... that's made me wonder if the Manipulator has limited batteries...
