Combine world destroyed?

Has anyone considered that the combine world might be destroyed by the blast at the end, as it happens right next to the portal? Or, alternatively, the blast might destroy the connection between our world and theres.

Actually, it seems to be agreed that there is only one portal...the one in City 17. It's for that reason that Breen makes City 17 the capitol (and, presumably, that's also the reason that City 17 is the center for the resistance).

There's a few more cities, if you look at the timetable at the trainstation you begin in, you see times for up to City 22 (I think).

So in effect we shouldn't really be counting on the combine reappering in hl3, as the portal is gone...

I'm not sure about that, but isn't combine supposed to be more than one alien race? combine is not Xen world isn't it?
Combine species live on many different planets, humanity was the newest race that was supposed to join the combine.

I got the feeling that the Combine is a single species that has invaded and occupued numerous worlds...but there is still a single species behind it.
