WHERE THE **** ARE ALL THE ROCK CONCERTS?

There's almost no underground in Vancouver, and the big concerts are all shit like Bratz or some really ****ing old band only playing to lament the golden days. The only decent thing I remember was the RHCP back when they came out with Stadium Arcadium, but I couldn't go because the tickets were like $300.

I was hoping for some lower key stuff that you'd find in cafes or whatever, but no-one is doing anything. I'm only 17 so I can't get into bars so I don't know what's going on in those places. But basically it's all just clubs and raves or concerts for the living dead.

Anyone from Vancouver know of any rock/metal/indie movement in the city or in the suburbs??

Looks like music died, but where the hell are those rebels we've been hearing about? Someone should get some bands together and have a public party in their basement at the very least....

Get over to Ottawa man, we've got craploads

damn it... Vancouver sucks. I heard London has SHITLOADS of punk stuff going on still too.

Isn't the Hot Jazz Club closed now?

EDIT: Closed since last June

By the way, I'm looking for places that'll let me in.. I'm 17

EDIT: lack of posts must mean no-one cares or no-one knows. So... **** society, it failed me.

Put on your own shows, man. Find some local bands, book out a venue and put on a 3 or 4 band show. You gotta start small like, and you got to have the time and dedication to really want to put your foot in and reach out to the right crowd, as well as a bit of money here and there, but it really pays off. I've worked with a guy in Manchester a few times at shows and me and some college mates put on shows at our local Varsity pub every couple of months.

Granted, you ain't gonna be putting on RHCP at some stadium, but if you want a music scene to relate to you gotta give it a standing point. Get in touch with some small venues then go on Myspace or whatever and find some local bands that are looking for gigs. My mate in Manchester now puts on some really big name metal shows, as well as one of Britain's biggest up and coming festivals, Damnation Festival, which has really been making an impact for underground UK metal.

That sounds like the perfect idea at first, and maybe I'm being hypocritical, but that just won't happen with me.

- First of all, I'd need help, and I don't have friends who listen to real music / care about it enough to do something.

- Second of all, I'd need a job that can give me some real cash, and that means working maybe most of the week to make enough money to open some place for 1 night every few months, and with graduation coming that would really ****ing suck. And I'd need a car.

- Third, I'm lazy.

- Fourth, I'd rather PLAY in a gig, but I'm not social enough to pack my guitar and try to join a band with people I don't know.

- Fifth, I'd need management skills and some balls, which I obviously don't have if I'm unwilling to try out for a band with people I don't know.

- Sixth, I don't think there's an underground ANYTHING (other than possibly trance) in Vancouver.

- Seventh, am I being emo? I don't care, this shit is way over my head.

- Finally, I'd have to find some goddamn bands, and Myspace is gay.

Obviously these are just the problems that I see right now, and who knows, I might change my mind later. Right now though, this isn't realistic for someone like me. Really kinda "revolutionizing" tbh.

The best way is probably to just look for a band that needs a guitarist (I highly ****ing doubt I'd find something like that) and tryout. First I'd need to get drunk though.

Well, I can't really argue or comment against personal issues that may be hindering you from doing this, that or the other, so fair enough all the same. All I'll say is things like finding bands on Myspace and actually renting out a venue are easy as hell, and for just putting on a simple show, there's no need for any buisness or management issues. That comes later. ;)

Yeah, it must be a helluva lot easier than I make it out to be.... Anyways I think I found a site that gives me some places to look at, http://livemusicvancouver.com/

Most of the gigs say No Minors, why? Assholes. And most of the ones for all ages are medieval or classical lmfao. Well, yeah for the kids I guess.
