When i get to the "confirmation" page and hit "Validate" it goes "unsuccessful data record, please try again" AAAHHHHHHH????!!............Why??

OK... wait a sec.. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO PLAY HALF-LIFE 2???? Do i need to register half life at vugames or not and how on earth dose steam work? Why cant it just be normal.
Do i have to be on the net when playing? Why dose steam take soooooo long.

you need to use steam to get your key registered, then you can play offline. Yesterday there were some people(me included) that didn't get their key verified til later in the day, because Steam was so busy..
anyway, when you open up steam, click on 'browse games', then 'register game i alread own'.. it will then ask for your cd-key..
there's also quite a few things that need downloaded.. on my phone modem it took probably an hour overall.. sometimes it's downloading important stuff but doesn't tell you.. if you see that it's downloading something.. just leave it alone..
anyway, hope that helps!
